There is no need to raise the Medicare eligibility age. Increasing the Medicare tax by half a percentage point (to just 2%) will increase revenue for Medicare by 1/3. This will yield plenty of revenue to continue providing quality health care for all eligible seniors.
Why is this important?
Republicans want to raise the eligibility age for Medicare. Reducing eligibility for Medicare is a step in the wrong direction, moving away from universal health care. We can continue providing quality health care for all eligible seniors for decades to come by merely raising the Medicare tax from 1.45% of earnings to 2%. This tiny tax increase (about $250 per year for the median American family) will increase the resources of the Medicare program by 1/3.
