Save Newton-Conover City Schools
We are writing to express our strong opposition to the proposed consolidation of Newton-Conover City School and Catawba County School systems We belleve that combining our school systems will do far more harm than good- both for our students and our community Each school system has developed its own culture, tailored to the unique needs of its students, educators, and famlies. Merging districts risks losing
the strengths and achievements that individual systems have bullt over many years. Our local schools are not just educational institutions; they are vital parts of our communities with distinct identities, traditions, and support networks. In addition, consolidation often leads to larger class sizes, longer bus rides for students, diminished local control, and the loss of jobs-especially for support staff who are essential to day-to-day school operatlons. These disruptlons will negatively affect student achievement, teacher morale, and community trust in the education system. Furthermore, we are concerned that this decision is being considered without sufficient input from parents, educators, and community members. A change of this magnitude must be subject to thorough, transparent public engagement and a rigorous, data-driven analysis of its long-term consequences. We urge you to reconsider this proposal and to invest nstead in strengthening each school system individually-allowing them to maintain their identities, address their specific challenges, and continue to serve their communities effectively. Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope you wll stand with the many parents, teachers, and residents who value local accountability and quality education tallored to our children's diverse needs.
