Save Our Dimond Park Trees

I am signing this petition because I do not support the removal of the trees in Dimond Park that is currently planned for the Sausal Creek restoration project. The vast majority of users of this valued public park had no effective notice with regards to the planned demolition and degrading of this streamside grove of native trees. In light of this, we respectfully request:

• that the public comment period for any and all tree removal permits and permit applications related to this project be reopened/extended for six months, to allow an authentic opportunity for real public input on the issues and impacts to this beloved public space
• that a thorough Environmental Impact Report addressing the specific impacts of this proposed project on Dimond Park, the watershed, and the community be done and made publicly available

Further, the overwhelming sentiment of the people of Oakland and Alameda County is that redwoods, oaks, and other native trees are a beloved and ecologically vital part of our natural inheritance, therefore we respectfully request that the City and County address any issues with the creek in a manner that leaves these healthy native trees where they are – providing beauty and natural habitat to the park and community as they have done for generations.

Thank you.

Sincerely, the Undersigned.

Why is this important?

The City has posted tree removal permits on DOZENS of beautiful, healthy, NATIVE trees, including twenty-one redwoods, many of them multiple feet across and many stories tall, as part of a so-called 'restoration' project. Public comment is urgently needed to save them.
