Save Our Dying Oceans
I strongly urge President Obama to both sign and agree to defend the UNCLOS Treaty to save our oceans from dying from over fishing and pollution.
Why is this important?
It has just come to my attention that the US has signed but never consented to agree to abide by the1994 UNCLOS Treaty, along with Libya, North Korea, and some landlocked states in Asia and Alaska! UNCLOS stands for the Law of the Seas Treaty. It has been signed and agreed to however by 161 other countries plus the EU!
This Treaty is a "constitution for the ocean" - It provides a legal framework within which all legal ocean activities must operate to protect from the real perils of over fishing and pollution. This petition is to insist that the US take on the responsibility of being a world leader in saving our oceans from dying.
