Save Our Hamakua Heritage Ditch

We are not denying the State the use of the Lower
Hamakua Ditch irrigation system. Rather, we are
objecting to the installation of piping the entire length
of the waterway, and seek to achieve a settlement
that would allow the heritage ditch to remain open.
We landowners want to work out a compromise to
ensure the security of the flow of water in this first
five miles section while maintaining this section as an
open vessel system. We ask for your support to
pursue an agreement with the State to preserve a
portion of the unique cultural asset – would you
kindly sign your name as your show of support?

Lawsuits are being brought by the State to take the 24 mile corridor of land
underlying the entire Lower Hamakua Ditch waterway. The State intends to put a big
pipe in the cut stone irrigation vessel and then completely bury the entire length of
the waterway. If this happens, we will no longer have the enjoyment and access to
any portion of this precious historic asset.

Why is this important?
