Save our Native Prairie Grasslands
We, the undersigned, request that the Lesser Prairie Chicken be put on the "Threatened" list under the Endangered Species Act, in order to preserve our native grasslands.
Why is this important?
The Fish and Wildlife Service has opened a 90 day period for open comment from the public and the scientific community. Four public hearing will be held in February and this petition will be presented at that time..The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is considering putting the Lesser Prairie Chicken on the "threatened" list under the Endangered Species Act. The decline in this species signals that our native grasslands are in trouble. These grasslands support dozens of migratory birds, farmers, ranchers and local communities across the southwest region.
We will be working alongside the Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Land Management, and the Sutton Center to preserve our environment. For the people of these states, putting the lesser prairie chicken on the threatened list opens up the possibility of putting it being a stone in the road to impede the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline Upon learning of this consideration, lawmakers in major oil and gas districts yelled "Fowl." We cannot let these industries risk our environment.
