To: Meghan Sahli-Wells, Mayor of Culver City, and City Council Members
Save the Culver Blvd Median Park
We the undersigned, petition Culver City City Council to reject the proposed
Culver Boulevard Realignment Project, P-460.
We believe that the supposed issues prompting this expensive proposal are largely incorrectly perceived and the project is an unnecessary and ill conceived response to those traffic and safety issues that do deserve simple and easy interventions.
We request that the City Council not squander $2,000,000 of Culver City Mitigation Funds to claim the $5,000,000 Federal and State grant moneys. It is this grant money that seems to be primarily driving this project rather than community needs. No one would be thinking of destroying the heavily used and aesthetically unique Culver Median Park otherwise.
Because we believe this project to not be at all in the best interests of the community we request the City Council to discontinue funding for further outside consultants and discontinue the related grant applications.
We reject the negative impact of a divided highway through our neighborhood.
We request that the public works dept. be instructed to implement simple solutions to the legitimate traffic and safety issues by:
>Changing the crossing at Huron from a blinking red to solid red.
>Install "No Left Turn during rush hour times" signs at Huron and Harter.

Why is this important?
The Culver City Public Works Dept is proposing a drastic and unnecessary bulldozing of the Culver Median Park from a planted and pleasant 60 feet to 44 feet while pushing it into and narrowing the north side service road, bringing the traffic - and its noise - 32 feet closer to the North side residents of Culver Blvd.
