To: Barbara A. Wallace, Mayor of Washington Township
Save the Home of American Legion Post 521
Washington Township NJ wants to kick out American Legion Post 521 from their home at Grenloch Community Center. This will leave the legion members with no place to meet. How can a legion survive without a place the members can call home?
The current reasoning behind this move by the township is that they need the money of sale of the American Legion post's building. That is unacceptable. If the township needs money, they need to do it without hurting our veterans. Any small amount of money they save in the short term is nothing compared to what these men and women have sacrificed for our country and for Washington Township. These people are heroes, and the town is treating them like they don't even matter.
Tell Washington Township council and your mayor that you support veterans! Save the American Legion Post 521 meeting home!

12/18 Update. News reports to the contrary, it seems clear based on negotiations that the Legion post is being forced/pushed/etc to accept a new location which is vastly inferior to the current one. The new location is much smaller and in much worse condition. The township initially promised that the poor condition of the new facility would be corrected, then changed their minds, (saying for example they would would only patch up the roof, when in fact the building needs thousands of dollars of additional repairs.) The new location is in such a sad state that it's even possible it could eventually be declared condemned, leaving the Legion homeless.
This is how Washington Township treats it's Veterans. It's time to stand up and declare that this is wrong, that vets DO matter, and that we should be holding our vets up (instead of kicking them to the curb whenever it saves us a couple bucks.)
