Newport, Oregon is the is one of the highest catch ports in the US, and a huge recreational, merchant, research and NOAA port. The Coast Guard rescue helicopter is being relocated between 90 and 130 miles away. This move is the result of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2014 and will jeopardize the lives of our commercial and recreational fleet. This decision can not stand. Help keep our fisherpeople safe.
Why is this important?
It seems ludicrous to endanger the lives of so many people by lengthening the response time. If Newport has the highest concentration of people going to sea, it only makes sense for Newport to have the rescue capability at hand. Please sign to protect the lives of our sea going community.
