Save the Newport Rescue Helicopter

Victory! The creator of this petition declared the campaign a success. You can still sign the petition to show support.

Newport, Oregon is the is one of the highest catch ports in the US, and a huge recreational, merchant, research and NOAA port. The Coast Guard rescue helicopter is being relocated between 90 and 130 miles away. This move is the result of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2014 and will jeopardize the lives of our commercial and recreational fleet. This decision can not stand. Help keep our fisherpeople safe.

Why is this important?

It seems ludicrous to endanger the lives of so many people by lengthening the response time. If Newport has the highest concentration of people going to sea, it only makes sense for Newport to have the rescue capability at hand. Please sign to protect the lives of our sea going community.

Reasons for signing

  • I signed this because I know first hand it without it literally thousands of lives could be lost this helicopter reduces the length of response time so dramatically that it literally makes the difference of saving or losing the life of anyone in distress in our ocean we truly need to keep the Helo in operation as it is the strongest link to saving countless lives
  • Keep the Fishing Fleet Safe and Keep the Choppers flying.
  • My name is Danny Campbell a survivor of the FV Ruth that crashed into the North Jetty in Charleston, Oregon, September 9th, 2013 with a young lady losing her life.If it had not had been for the Helicopter, no boats would have seen me and I would not have made it.
