Saving Kenyans from a Brutal Regime

In June 2024, Kenyan Youth went on the streets to protest general bad governance under President Ruto's administration, from extreme corruption, high unemployment (up to 67% for people aged 18-34 years), and over taxation. The President of Kenya at first declared it treason, threatening to crash Kenyan citizens, before he pulled back. These young men and women went to the streets with their cell phones and Kenyan flags, and met a fully armed police force that brutalized, murdered, and abducted them.  Over 60 young people were killed like dogs in the streets of Nairobi and other cities. Some shot in the backs as they ran away.

The Kenyan Police structure serves at the president's pleasure, he therefore cannot wish away this blame. The buck stops with him. To date, some of the abducted have not been found, dead nor alive.

As all these was happening, matter of fact, up to a week before the eruption of protests, there seemed to be a US extravagant praise for President Ruto in the media, at home and abroad. At home it may have been the government’s propaganda machine, but where the ex-Kenya media houses were getting evidence of his greatness remain a mystery. In May 2024 for example, floods were killing Kenyans as government officials went on public television to brag about a million-shilling belts and shoes. Some blamed victims of floods, stating that ‘rivers are claiming their paths.’ President Ruto has no regard for the courts of law and disregards almost all court rulings. Young people continue to be abducted, the most recent being Morara Kebaso, for the crime of educating citizens on the government’s failures.

This petition asks the US government, the US Congress and the US Bureau on African Affairs, to state its position and clearly point to us which pages they are reading from regarding Kenya under President Ruto. Are the actions that President Ruto is subjecting Kenyans to, tolerable in the USA? If not, why is a country that stands for the general good in the world, encouraging President Ruto in killing Kenya's citizens. The US speaking against crimes perpetrated against Kenyans by their president will deter Mr. Ruto.

We request that the US remove its stamp of approval on this killer regime of president Ruto. Do 60 young Kenyans need to die, or anyone for that matter, be it American, European or African, before a President listens?

We request the USA show its leadership in human rights, to include Kenyan lives, because they too matter. It is the US embassy that continued praising President Ruto even as young Kenyans were abducted, the economy failed, and corruption flourished.

The US interests in Kenya and Africa should NOT overshadow Kenyan or African lives. They too matter!

Why is this important?

To save lives of Kenyans.
