SC Lawmakers: Block Anti-Refugee Bill S.997

Stop the bill that (1) allows the Department of Social Services (DSS) and law enforcement to track vetted refugees (2) makes their name, address, and employer public information, making them vulnerable to hate crimes, and (3) prevents sponsor organizations like churches liable for any crime they may commit in their lifetime

Why is this important?

Per the ACLU of South Carolina:
-S. 997 is blatantly unconstitutional and pre-empted by
federal law.
-This bill is an invitation for state officials to cast needless suspicion on lawfully admitted immigrants based on national origin or religious beliefs.
- If it were constitutional, this bill will make refugees vulnerable to attacks from violent vigilantes.
