TELL CONGRESS "STOP SPYING ON AMERICANS"We, the undersigned, demand that Congress and the White House uphold the US constitution and end all programs that allow spying on innocent Americans, not under suspicion of wrongdoing. We demand that the FISA amendments NOT be extended, that CISPA be voted down and another bill which ONLY addresses cyber crime be substituted. We demand that sections 1021 and 1022 of the NDAA be repealed and our constitutional rights to a trial by jury, habeas corpus and legal counsel be reinstated.9 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Ellen Olenska

President Obama: Apologize to Pakistan NOWIn the wee hours of Nov. 27, U.S.-NATO and Afghan forces based in Afghanistan’s Kunar province engaged a Pakistani military outpost in Pakistan’s tribal agency of Momand. Little information is publically available -- or likely to be -- about what happened or how. What is clear is that after several NATO airstrikes, 24 Pakistani soldiers were dead and many more injured. NATO and U.S. officials declined to officially speculate about the details of the event -- much less offer an apology -- until a full investigation was complete. The investigation is now complete. The report has been issued, and the Pentagon issued a statement Thursday saying only that “U.S. forces, given what information they had available to them at the time, acted in self defense and with appropriate force after being fired upon.” There was, the statement said, “no intentional effort to target persons or places known to be part of the Pakistani military, or to deliberately provide inaccurate location information to Pakistani officials.” Instead, “inadequate coordination by U.S. and Pakistani military officers… resulted in a misunderstanding about the true location of Pakistani military units.” The statement expressed regret, but neither President Barack Obama nor Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has issued a forthright apology. Unfortunately, neither is likely to do so given the toxic atmosphere in Washington and the looming presidential campaign. While the report apportions blame on both sides, an astute reader can only conclude that the most heinous mistakes were not made by Pakistan. The worst -- and fatal error -- was the fact that the Americans provided the Pakistan army with incorrect coordinates of the designated targets of AC-130 gunships and attack helicopters. In the early days of the incident, there were several claims and counterclaims about whether the coordinates were given, whether they were correct, and whether or not the Pakistan army cleared the coordinates before the attack. However, the report makes it evident that Pakistan’s clearance of the coordinates or lack thereof is immaterial: The strikes would still have killed those innocent soldiers because the coordinates were simply wrong. The United States must swiftly act to rectify this mess first by apologizing. Second, the U.S. military must hold those officers to account who are responsible for this tragedy. Not only should appropriate personnel be demoted or ousted per the severity of their negligence, prosecution may also be merited. The United States claims to promote democracy, accountability, justice, law and order, and human rights. Now is the time to prove it. Pakistanis need to know that their lives matter as much as those of others.57 of 100 SignaturesCreated by C. Christine Fair

Tell ICE: Free Yuliana's Dad!I am writing for the immediate release of Gustavo Gonzalez Leyva (A# 096-530-356) from Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia and call on ICE to immediately stop his deportation. On the morning of January 12, 2015, Gustavo put his daughters Yuliana and Yaquelin on the bus for school and prepared for work when ICE officers detained him, tearing apart his family and putting their health and well-being at risk. Gustavo had been in custody of ICE before in 2009 after he was arrested for a DWI but was released and granted work authorization. The reasons for detaining him now are unjustified as he is not a threat to national security, border security, or public safety and his criminal record has not changed since 2009. Gustavo has been detained away from his family for over two months and faces imminent deportation. Gustavo came to the United States from Mexico in 1998 in search of a better life. He works with his brother who is a green card holder in Hickory, NC, where they run a mechanic shop together. Gustavo is the loving father of 3 US citizen daughters, a loving husband, and a hard worker. He attends St. Aloysius Catholic Church every Sunday with his family. If deported, his family would suffer irreparable damage as his 12 year old US citizen daughter, Yuliana, is at risk of suicide. In a letter to ICE, Therapist Sara Skinner QP, MSW, LCSWA writes that "..her depressive symptoms have been worsened dramatically since her father, Mr. Gonzalez Leyva, was detained..Deporting Yuliana's father could trigger more extreme depressive symptoms in Yuliana which could intensify her risk for suicide". In addition to Yuliana's deteriorating mental health, Gustavo's wife, Juana, experienced severe bleeding that sent her to the hospital. The official conclusion was that she had a miscarriage induced by severe stress. As head of the household, Gustavo's presence is essential to the well-being of his family. In a letter by Yuliana's sixth grade teacher, she states that "Yuliana is a bright young lady..I know she wants to learn and be successful; however, her mind is definitely focused on her family. As an educator for 24 years, I often see how the breakdown of the family impacts a child's education as well as their outlook on the future. Strong family units provide children with stability and support they need to become productive citizens. It is that love and encouragement from the parents that ensures their children a bright and successful life. It is my hope that Yuliana's family stay intact allowing her and her siblings the opportunity to grow and learn through the support of both parents." It is evident that Gustavo's wife and daughters will not be able to subsist and will suffer severe emotional, financial, and physical deprivation if he is deported. For each day Gustavo is detained, taxpayers are spending approximately $159 per day for his detention. In total, over $10,000 in taxpayer money has been spent keeping Gustavo in detention. The factors in Gustavo's case prove he is not a threat to national security, border security, or public safety. Therefore, according to the memo issued by Jeh Johnson, he should be released and granted a favorable exercise of prosecutorial discretion. I urge you to immediately release Gustavo Gonzalez Leyva from Stewart Detention Center and stop his deportation.215 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Viridiana

FBI Director James Comey Must Step DownJames Comey released information about an ongoing investigation of Secretary Clinton's emails 12 days before the election based on no new evidence. Donald Trump's ties to Russia were being investigated at the same time but none of the damning information was released, an obviously partisan move.50 of 100 SignaturesCreated by DEBORAH COADY MD
