The Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act of 2007 was passed so that people who got loan modifications wouldn't have to pay taxes on any principal that is forgiven or reduced. Unfortunately the Act expired on 12/31/13 meaning homeowners will now face these exorbitant taxes!

Working through diplomacy to settle international conflicts is doable. The long negotiations with regard to Iran's rights and obligations as a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty are proof that we can have peace rather than never ending war in the middle-east. New studies funded by the US Navy show sonar testing harms whales and other marine mammals, many of them already highly endangered species. Please tell Californias leaders in Congress and the Senate to take action to withdraw the Navy's permission to conduct sonar war games.

Let's at least come up with reasonable gun laws to keep our children safe.

During the government shutdown, members of Congress should share the pain by also going without their paychecks.

Congress, in its unwillingness to compromise on a budget, has unnecessarily shut down the government. Hundreds of thousands of federal employees will be unpaid throughout the shutdown. Members of Congress should do the decent thing and forgo their wages for the same period. Our elected representatives at every level are voted in to represent us and our interests. Without a forfeit of wages, the officials making these decisions prove further that they are out of touch with the common citizen. The rash decision to shut down the government is damaging our already fragile economic recovery. The forfeiture of pay is the least they can do to prove they are sincere in their efforts to provide a government worthy of our citizens.

Eliminate the exemption for hunting dogs from animal protection laws in the state of South Carolina. Enable law enforcement to fully implement the existing laws to protect hunting dogs.

This petition is in support of all educators and students in Texas. The mission is to protect the educators and children from contracting and/or spreading Covid 19. This is a direct response to the decision to reopen all schools for the 2021 school year. This would create an increase & influx of virus cases, and back track any progress we've made in flattening the curve. Online classes have been executed by public and private schools since March 2020. As the number cases of Covid 19 continue to rise, we deem it ESSENTIAL that all courses continue to be offered ONLINE for the start of the 2021 school year. Social distancing & masking alone are not viable solutions. An average classroom holds anywhere from 25-35 students not counting the teacher or teachers aids, even with mask and hand washing protocol, there is physically no room, to create a 6 ft barrier between 25-35 students including teachers and other staff. Further, expecting kids to wear masks continuously throughout the school day is far fetched.

This petition is to ask the US Gov to fully prosecute any member of the Dept. of Veteran Affairs who is caught stealing money. This is just ridiculous that the two VA employees in Bedford, Massachusetts have not been charged with anything after stealing over $1million from this campus; stealing from our nations' disabled veterans. Please sign this petition as one of these employees still works for the Bedford VA hospital and her father was allowed to retire with all his benefits after being caught.
