  • New York Sports Club: don't rip off your longtime customers
NYSC's new and widely advertised low monthly rate hides a high initial enrollment cost that other low-cost gyms don't have. Even longtime customers have to pay it in order to switch to the new low rate, despite having paid an enrollment fee once already.

  • Reinstate Gilbert Todachine as Pastor of Gospel Lighthouse Church Crownpoint, New Mexico.
A careful review of Gilbert Todachine’s tithing for the year of 2019. In lieu of his termination is requested. That is to say an “appeal” on Mr. Todachine’s behalf by the assembly of Gospel Lighthouse Crownpoint. Termination should not be determined by a one or two people in the District as to this saddening outcome. In fact, there wasn’t any hard evidence presented to Crownpoint Gospel Lighthouse Church as to the non payment of tithes. Mr. Todachine has stated that he has been faithful in giving to the work of the Lord with documentation. Mr. McLain has come and shared his point of this matter but did not satisfy the real reason for this decision. The decision seems very very unfair. Mr Todachine wasn't allowed to attend the meeting on January 18th to speak on his behalf or present this matter before the attendees. We feel as a body, that his presence was needed at this meeting and we are very disappointed that he wasn't allowed to represent himself before the board, attendees and Mr. McClain. A FAIR review of documentation is requested and we believe he has met the requirement within the required time frame. In addition we the body of Crownpoint Gospel Lighthouse request full reinstatement (immediately) as Pastor of Gospel Light House Church Crownpoint, New Mexico per the board, leadership team and members. We feel his presence here is greatly needed. God's work is flourishing in the community due to his presence and of his preaching of God's word. The Assembly will be devastated by his removal as Pastor. God has ordained this man and he has placed him here for this time. We ask for full reinstatement upon careful review of his tithing of 2019. As brothers and sisters in Christ we should help one another and not look into monetary issues as a reason for dismissal.

  • Defense Secretary Austin: Stop the construction of the new U.S. military base in Okinawa
To Defense Secretary Austin: I urge you to stop the construction of the new airbase in Henoko immediately. Okinawans have been pushing back the expansion of this new base for nearly a decade and it’s time we took action by closing it down. The base is far too costly to the environment and it’s structurally unsound. We must prevent further harm in the Pacific and Okinawa, by stopping the construction of the new base altogether.

  • NEW: Trump-approved postmaster general's policies could delay mail-in ballots
Postmaster general Louis DeJoy unveiled drastic new directives that could bring the USPS to a grinding halt, destroying customers’ confidence in the agency -- and putting our right to vote by mail in jeopardy. DeJoy must immediately reverse these harmful changes and ensure that everyday Americans have a strong, reliable Postal Service that they can depend on during elections.

  • Your comments are needed to support critical new DOL H-2A regulations
I support of our nation’s farm workers, whose hard work makes it possible for us to have food on our table every day. The proposed regulatory changes to the H-2A agricultural guestworker program would reduce abuse, exploitation and trafficking of farm workers. Improving the H-2A program would in turn improve the wages and working conditions of U.S. workers. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, over half of farm workers are U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. The proposed changes would positively impact many of these farm workers and begin to address many of the systemic, abusive issues in the H–2A program. I urge the Department of Labor (DOL) to move forward in finalizing the proposed rules, in its strongest form, so that we have more accountability, transparency and oversight in the H-2A program, our workforce and the U.S.

  • New Orleans: Reclaim the Promise of Public Education--Our Schools, Our Solutions
New Orleans wants great neighborhood public schools that are safe and welcoming, are fully funded and have teachers who are well-prepared, are well-supported, and have manageable class sizes and time to collaborate. We want our schools to be centers of our communities and ensure that children and families have access to wraparound services to meet their social, emotional and health needs. We want curriculum that focuses on teaching and learning, not testing, and that includes art, music and the sciences. We want to put the public back in public education. The top-down policies of the last decade have not worked. It's clear that austerity, competition, division and hyper-testing have not and will not help our students. Top-down edicts, sanctions, mass school closures and denigrating teachers will not move the needle in the right direction. Our children and our schools deserve better. We want a new direction for our schools. Teachers, students, parents, community organizations, civil rights advocates and faith leaders recently met in Los Angeles and together endorsed "The Principles That Unite Us." I urge you to sign on to these principles. We need our leaders to stand with us, united around a common vision for our schools.
