  • Stop the oversaturation of Shelters in ENY
Ask yourself: Why it is easier to build shelters in East New York, RATHER THAN affordable/permanent housing? Why there are monies/resources to build shelters in East New York, BUT there are not enough monies/resources for community centers in East New York? Recently an abundance of homeless shelters have been established in the Brownsville and East New York neighborhoods, and several others are in the developmental stages. Our communities have become the dumping grounds for New York City’s Shelters. Brownsville and East New York are ranked 1st and 3rd amongst the city’s most concentrated areas of shelters, while other neighborhoods have ZERO/NONE. Section 203 of the New York City Charter titled Fair Share requires that there be a fair distribution of the burdens and benefits associated with city facilities. The city has clearly violated its own statutes by over-saturating our communities and failing to follow their own procedure, as outlined in Section 203 of the New York City Charter to notify residents in a timely manner. We deserve to know who and what exists in our community; and to decide what is right for our community, families and businesses. We must immediately stop the future development of turning properties into shelters and address the issue of over-saturation in the Brownsville/East New York areas. Our research shows that of the 18 community boards in the borough of Brooklyn, most communities have 2 or 3 shelters. We have 17 shelters in East New York and we suspect there will be more, if we don’t act immediately. Our neighbors in Brownsville have 16. Additionally, these numbers do not include the unknown number of halfway houses and three quarter houses funded through DHS (NYC Department of Homeless Services). NOTE: We are not against city shelters. We realize that anyone could be caught in this situation. We are, however, against our community being used as a dumping ground for these programs. The FACTS are, OVER SATURATION means: Misuse/abuse of East New York’s community resources. It cost taxpayers approximately $3000.00/month per bed in shelters vs. $1500.00/month for an affordable housing one bedroom apt. NYC allocates monies to build shelters, BUT cut funding for daycare/senior centers; and schools. Disruption of Residential Communities Negative impact on the Quality of Life Increased Criminal Activity Loitering Depreciated Home Values We need your support to wage this fight against the over-saturation of shelters in our community.

  • Gov Christie - Stop Wasting Our Tax Dollars to Promote Your Political Career
You claim to place the highest priority on looking out for New Jersey's taxpayers, yet there are multiple examples of you using taxpayer dollars to promote your own political ambitions. You can't have it both ways, claiming to protect New Jersey's taxpayers while at the same time wasting our taxpayer dollars to promote your political career. We, as New Jersey taxpayers, demand that you stop wasting our tax dollars to promote your political career.

Add your name to our letter calling upon our representatives in Washington to stand strong in their support of every initiative that will improve the lives of the American People; healthcare, increased wages, COVID relief, immigration reform, education funding, tax reform, the Green New Deal. We have an opportunity to make important changes, and we know the Republicans are going to try to block all of it; encourage our representatives to resist Republican pressure to back down.

  • Protect Voting Rights: End Gerrymandering and Voter Suppression Now
Protect Voting Rights: End Gerrymandering and Voter Suppression NowOur democracy is at risk. Right now, millions of Americans can't make their voices heard because of deliberate barriers designed to silence them. This isn't just unfair—it undermines the very foundation of our nation. When districts are carved up to favor one party (gerrymandering), your vote might not matter much. When polling places in certain neighborhoods mysteriously close, when ID requirements target specific groups, or when voter rolls are purged without proper notice, we're not living up to our promise of government by the people, for the people. This isn't a partisan issue. It's about whether we truly believe in democracy. Every American deserves equal access to the ballot box, regardless of where they live, how much money they make, or what they look like. Think about it: How would you feel if you took time off work, arranged childcare, traveled to your polling place—only to be turned away because of a technicality? Or what if your vote barely counted because your district was drawn to dilute your community's voice? This is happening to our neighbors, friends, and family members right now. The numbers tell a clear story. In some states, voters wait in line for hours in certain neighborhoods while others zip in and out in minutes. Some communities have one polling place for thousands of people, while others have many options within walking distance. These aren't accidents—they're calculated decisions. When we limit who can vote, we limit whose needs get addressed. Issues that matter to excluded communities—from healthcare to education to public safety—get ignored by politicians who don't need their votes to win. We can change this. Together, we can demand: 1. Independent redistricting commissions in every state to end partisan gerrymandering 2. Restoration of the Voting Rights Act to its full strength 3. Automatic voter registration when citizens turn 18 4. Early voting periods in all states 5. An end to unnecessary ID requirements that target vulnerable communities 6. More polling places in underserved areas 7. Protection against unjustified voter roll purges

  • Fund the pension, obey the law
The pension and benefits reform bill you signed in 2011 made a binding contractual commitment to pay down the unfunded liability of the pension system. To argue that your own law is unconstitutional is the height of hypocrisy. Stop putting millionaires and corporations ahead of the law. Obey your own law and fully fund the pension.

  • Bring Back Mr. Gioia! Exceptional leader for our graduating class
In September 2024, our beloved math and science teacher at SANY Citizenship & Science Academy, Mr. Gioia, was honored with the prestigious Atomic Educator Award for his remarkable influence on student growth. His dedication and teaching excellence have contributed significantly to our chidren's school environment, making learning a joyful and engaging experience for us all. On January 7th, 2025 parents received a letter stating that Mr. Gioia had been dismissed. Fifth-grade students are now without a dedicated science and math teacher. Mr. Gioia's absence has not only caused a void in our classrooms but also in our hearts. He was much more than just a teacher; he was an outstanding leader, a motivator, an inspiration, and a guiding figure. We believe that kids are SANY deserve better and we invite you to review our petition advocating for the reinstatement of Mr. Gioia. The loss of Mr. Gioia hampers our graduating class's educational growth. We believe the students of SANY Citizenship & Science Academy deserve better, and it is in their best interest to bring back Mr. Gioia. In the past, his teaching methods have yielded positive results, and his pedagogical skills are highly valued by both students and parents. His departure has caused a setback that we cannot afford, especially in this critical graduation years when academic success will greatly impact our children's future paths. It is our earnest request that you respond to the school community's request for the reinstatement of Mr. Gioia. We are confident that your support will make a difference. The lack of an exceptional science and math educator is already being felt by our students. We parents are very concerned about the academic regression in the progress our scholars have made. We sincerely hope that the decision to let Mr. Gioia go will be reconsidered by your administration and that the voices of both parents and students be reconsidered for the benefit of SANY citizenship graduating class. When we prioritize the well-being of our children, we can achieve positive change, and we are confident that this oversight will be rectified in a timely manner.

  • Boycott New Britain Herald and Bristol Press until Mr. Michael E. Schroeder Resigns!
I urge everyone to boycott the New Britain Herald and the Bristol Press and to cancel your subscriptions just like I have until both Mr. Schroder and Mr. Adelson resign from ownership! Last week I had asked Mr. Schroder to come clean and to make all financial and ownership records of the two newspaper's public. I was met with deafening silence. The people of New Britain and Bristol were lied to and we deserve to know the truth! What has become clear now is that both newspapers owned by Michael Schroeder and Sheldon Adelson have been engaged in lies, deceptions, and unethical practices designed solely to go after their political enemies. Mr. Schroeder has been caught plagiarizing from other sources, and there were articles that appeared in both papers that were written by fake people who do not even exist in real life. There were even articles published solely to target judges and politicians - some as far away as Las Vegas! We want our newspaper back! The people of New Britain and Bristol deserves a bipartisan daily paper that serves the interests of the people of New Britain and Bristol and not one that serves the interests of Mr. Schroder and Mr. Adelson. We want a paper that informs the community on what is happening here and not what some business court judge in Nevada is doing that is upsetting Mr. Adelson. As a daily subscriber, I did not pay hundreds of dollars a year to be lied to. I subscribed to the New Britain Herald because I wanted to read about the actual news and events of New Britain and not some phony political propaganda shrouded in secrecy funded by dark money secretly owned by special interest groups located some 2,000 miles away from my community. I deserve better. The people of New Britain and Bristol deserve better. We want our newspaper back! And we will boycott both the New Britain Herald and Bristol Press until both Mr. Schroeder and Mr. Adelson remove themselves from ownership! https://www.facebook.com/notes/steve-majerus-collins/why-i-quit-my-job-as-a-reporter-today/10153327505887883?hc_location=ufi https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/erik-wemple/wp/2015/12/24/reporter-for-connecticuts-bristol-press-resigns-and-why-that-matters/?postshare=4611451219840914&tid=ss_fb http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2015/12/24/3734967/sheldon-adelson-las-vegas-review-sun-mike-hengel/ http://www.courant.com/news/connecticut/hc-new-britain-herald-aba-huffpost-1224-20151223-story.html http://m.apnews.com/ap/db_268748/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=P3F1iCvj http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/15/business/media/reporters-in-las-vegas-try-to-crack-case-of-who-owns-their-newspaper.html? smprod=nytcore-ipad&smid=nytcore-ipad-share http://www.courant.com/community/new-britain/hc-new-britain-herald-edward-clarkin-1223-20151223-story.html
