This week, Ronan Farrow's bombshell investigative book revealed that former Today show host Matt Lauer violently raped one of his NBC News colleagues, Brooke Nevils. NBC execs shrugged the rape off for three years until they could no longer shield Lauer from numerous allegations. What's more, the Lauer coverup is part of a pattern -- NBC News president Noah Oppenheim, one of the execs who refused to hold Lauer accountable, also tried to stop the investigation that brought down the notorious Harvey Weinstein. Thanks to the "Me Too" reckoning, powerful execs like Oppenheim have been held accountable in similar situations -- like when UltraViolet teamed up with allies to take down Les Moonves, the former head of CBS, just last year. While this news is in the headlines, will you demand NBC News and its parent company Comcast make serious structural changes that will protect women from sexual abuse and hold perpetrators accountable?

In July the Republican National Convention will kick off in Milwaukee, with events running from Sunday, July 14 to Thursday, July 18. During that time, major news outlets and journalists will be reporting and livestreaming the convention, including speeches made by Trump, MAGA politicians, and representatives from dangerous conservative organizations like the Heritage Project and Citizens United.   We can’t give free air time to lies and propaganda! Demand news networks and journalists engage in live fact-checking to prevent the RNC from broadcasting misinformation to millions during their convention.

Donald Trump and his supporters have built a campaign on a foundation of lies. News reporters have let these lies go unchallenged for far too long, and American voters deserve to know the truth. As the election heats up, we demand that all major news channels implement a policy of fact-checking Trump and his supporters live, and challenging them when they distort the truth.

Put the issue of building a new jail on the ballot. "Shall Kingman County build a new jail?" ~ "For or Against."

We want a change but not like this! Have a meeting before any changes are made! Give everyone a vote!

We need to make a push for honest reporting from CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, and other liberal news organizations. We also need more of a push for MoveOn.org to be more honest, especially when it comes to talking about conservatives.

Dear West New York Board of Education Leaders: As former students, colleagues, friends and loved ones of Darcie Eckert Valencei (Mrs. Valencei), we kindly ask that you rename Public School #3 in honor of Mrs. Valencei to help preserve her legacy as one of West New York's most caring and committed educators.  Mrs. Valencei served the West New York Public School system for 25+ years as a teacher at Public School Number Three. Her life was cut short after the morning of December 17, 1999 due to a tragic car accident while on her way to teach her students.  Mrs. Valencei's connection to Public School #3 started when she herself was a student at the school where she would later go on to teach for more than 25 years. She was a lifelong resident of West New York until 3 years before her death. She was named Public School #3's  "Teacher of the Year" as well as "District Teacher of the Year."  She was also a coach of the Memorial High School girls volleyball team, where she brought them four consecutive championships with a record of 88-0.  She left a great impact on many of her students and former colleagues. As one of her former students, I was lucky to have her as my teacher for both 6th and 8th grades. I was one of the students that she was on her way to teach that morning in December and her death greatly impacted me in my 8th grade year. Most significantly, it was her love and commitment to teaching that left the greatest legacy on my heart and the heart of many of her students.  Ms. Valencei always showed up for us as a teacher and caretaker. A lot of her students, including me, lived in low-income, working class households.  Her classroom was a warm respite for many of us who had struggles at home. She would hug us when we were having a hard time navigating our early adolescence. She would tell us to always let her know if we did not have food to eat at home. Even as teenagers, she would read paperback books to us like she was reading us a bedtime story--Willy Wonka was one of my favorites she read to us. She had a jar of candy on her desk that she let us pick from for doing good deeds. Aside from the warm hugs, candy and storytime, what I remember most about her is her commitment to bring social justice issues to the forefront of her curriculum. She invited public speakers to come in to talk to us about human rights and moral courage, took us to the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC, and was bold enough to include coverage of current events at the time like the genocides in Bosnia and Rwanda. She opened our eyes to the greater issues facing the world far beyond our tiny school in West New York and inspired us to go out and be changemakers.  We ask that our beloved school be named in honor of her to preserve the legacy so that future generations of West New York students can continue to be inspired by her.

New Mexico has the highest rate of food insecurity and the lowest ranking for child welfare in the country. But Governor Martinez's administrator for fixing those problems, Secretary Sidonie Squires, doesn't even believe there is a problem. New Mexico needs a new secretary who knows New Mexico and has the toolkit to build a brighter future for those in need. I support legislative leaders calling for Squires to resign and give New Mexico's most vulnerable residents a fresh start at a brighter future.

The Trump administration has just unveiled their plan to expand offshore drilling in US continental-shelf waters. Sign this petition to tell our NJ Legislators to join other states in protecting the Jersey shore and all of America's coastline against the utterly counterproductive search for more climate changing fossil fuels. Tell Trump to provide job training for his rich oilmen friends. New Jersey and America are through with big oil!

It is time for the secret nonbinding no action committees and organizations to be break up, and new an excited committees in action groups, an organization has to be put in their place of fresh new faces and new ideas to bring special education into 21st century and beyond.
