Oppose water reservoir in Vernon Hills ParkWe respectfully request that the Vernon Hills Park District Board deny the request for a water reservoir and booster pump station in Carriage Green Park on Grosse Pointe Circle. • We believe that the location of a large concrete water reservoir (measuring 100 feet in diameter and 34 feet high, extending about 10 feet above ground) and a 50’ x 35’ booster pump station in a park is not appropriate. • It will be better suited to an area such as a business park or office park and such areas already exist in the Village of Vernon Hills. Additional land purchases could also be considered by Lake County Public Works for this structure. • Carriage Green Park is a small park and the proposed structure would significantly diminish the nature and beauty of this park in terms of its presence as well as the removal of about 15-20 large, mature trees. It would also impact the design flow and overall aesthetics of the park. This park is highly utilized by families with children, dogs and fitness enthusiasts. The park abuts two residential neighborhoods and a retirement home and the proposed location is highly visible from the main thoroughfare of Route 45. • We believe the proposed water reservoir and booster pump station would reduce property values of the residential neighborhoods. We, the undersigned, do not feel that this water reservoir is consistent with the Park District’s vision and mission because it would reduce park space, result in removal of healthy mature trees and have a negative effect on the design flow and aesthetics of the park. We also believe it will reduce property values of the residential neighborhoods. That’s why I signed a petition to the members of the Park District Board including President David Doerhoefer, Vice President Jim Ballowe, Commissioner Cindy Kessler, Commissioner Mike Meline, Commissioner Bruce Robbins, and Lake County Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor which says: “We believe that the construction of a water reservoir and booster pump station in Carriage Green Park is not a suitable fit.”131 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Kathy Knapp

Please STOMP Out Bullying and CyberbullyingGreetings, Bullying is a problem that affects millions of students of all races and classes. 1 out of 4 kids is bullied and 42% of kids have been bullied while online. Child and teen Bullying and Cyberbullying are at an all-time high. Some kids are so tormented that suicide has become an alternative for them. It has everyone worried. Not just the kids on its receiving end, but the parents and others who may not understand how extreme bullying can get. Bullying and Cyberbullying continue to harm kids physically, emotionally and the worst -- it continues to take lives. Just ask the family and friends of Jamie Rodemeyer, Kameron Jacobsen, Amanda Diane Cummings, Alexis Pilkington (New York),Tyler Clementi (New Jersey), Asher Brown (Texas), Scott Walz (Illinois), Christian Taylor (Virginia), Suade Cooley, Phoebe Prince, and Carl Joseph Walker-Hoover (Massachusetts), Matt Epling and Alex Harrison (Michigan), Jesse Logan (Ohio), Justin Aaberg (Minnesota), Celina Okwuone and Hope Witsell (Florida), Megan Meier (Missouri), Ryan Halligan (Vermont) and ALL of the others who took their lives because they were tormented on a daily basis. They might be here today if their schools had listened – if their schools took action and a stand against all forms of bullying -- including cyberbullying. They might be here today if the country had standardized legislation mandating schools to not only enforce a "No Tolerance" policy against bullying and cyberbullying -- but get involved and help the students -- rather than sweeping it under the rug. New Jersey and Massachusetts passed landmark legislation which requires schools to institute anti-bullying curriculum, investigate acts of bullying and report the most serious cases to law enforcement officers. New Jersey passed the toughest anti-bullying legislation in the country. Yet, all the legislation in the world won't matter if our schools ignore this epidemic, as the majority of America's schools are sweeping this issue under the rug. They take no responsibility in keeping our children safe. We ask you to pass strict, unified and national legislation throughout the country mandating that our schools help and protect our children, and enforce 'no tolerance' policies and anti-bullying legislation (including cyberbullying) so that our children can be safe in school and online. We ask that every school across the country have at least one trained person in bullying prevention who a student can go to at any time if they are being harassed or feel they are in danger and get immediate assistance. The cost of bullying and cyberbullying to our society is great and so are its effects. If we don't STOMP Out all forms of bullying now, we will lose more children to suicide, create a society of kids with post traumatic syndrome, and kids so full of hatred and violence that they grow up to be workplace bullies, and worse -- with even a greater cost to business and society. Please help to STOMP Out Bullying and Cyberbullying! Sincerely,775 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Jeremy Coursey

Mars and Nestlé: Stop using child slave labor in your chocolate NOW!Americans purchase $13 BILLION worth of chocolate each year, but what most people don’t know is that popular chocolate companies like Nestlé and Mars use slave labor from (often trafficked) African children to produce their chocolate products. The chocolate industry has missed deadlines to eliminate child slavery from their cocoa supply chains in 2005, 2008, and 2020. It’s outrageous, unacceptable, and an egregious human rights violation. We cannot allow them to keep getting away with this. Will you take action now and sign my petition to demand that Nestlé and Mars stop using child slave labor NOW?573 of 600 Signatures
