  • IBEW Apprenticeship and Your Tax Dollars
IBEW Local 68 Apprenticeship accepts government grants (your tax dollars) to train and employ electrical apprentices. But it does more: The money is used to discriminate against women and leave families homeless. Ed Knox, president, stated 50% of his members are unemployed. Now, his members will foot the legal bill of over $1,000,000 to defend the union in court against claims of discrimination. I gave up a $60,000 a year position to enter the Apprenticeship program. When I was told by an IBEW instructor not to return to school as I had a conflict, I discovered that every male request for a brief hiatus was granted. Mine was denied and I was apathetically thrown out of the program. During the board decision, I heard them laughing as one of their board members is female. They said, "You're a female (referring to Mrs. Holland). We will use you to prove we are not discriminating." Their actions have left my two children and a disabled man homeless. The attorney representing me will be paid by a women's organization. The IBEW Local 68 members will lose $1,000,000+ to defend the actions of their leaders. Stop the local from using any more of your tax dollars!

  • Mandatory Labeling for GMO Produce in Tennessee
State Legislation MUST be passed that requires mandatory labeling of all GMO produce - to encompass all farm produced crops and goods, including (but not limited to) fruits and vegetables, meats, dairy, grains, and oats - for sale to the public. Most commercially available produce is already labeled with a PLU sticker. These stickers can be easily modified to reflect GMO content without increasing costs for the producer. Certified Organic products are labeled with pride and without complaint of cost increase, why aren't GMO's? This is a small but vital step toward achieving mandatory labeling of ALL food products containing GMO ingredients. And with the Protect Interstate Commerce Act (PICA) on the horizon, which would revoke the ability of individual states' lawmakers to pass GMO-labeling laws, we need to act now.

  • Food Over-Packaging: Put A Stop To Unnecessary Plastic Packagings For Milk Tea 食品过度包装:对塑料袋装奶茶说NO
Corporations that sell milk tea or coffee such as 1-点点and Luckin Coffee should reduce the amount of packaging used in their products and turn to plant based alternatives such as paper, twine, or cotton to replace plastic. Since materials derived from plant matter are easily farmable, quickly degradable, and are also useful as compost or fuel, paper, twine, and cotton beat plastic in the long run in both productivity and environmental friendliness.

  • Extend the "Violence against women" act
By the end of high school, 68% of young women have faced sexual harrassment, abuse, or assault. We need to improve our society's behavior toward women, and we need to increase safety. This act was put in place to try to move toward that goal. It should be extended, not allowed to lapse.
