  • Stop "The Other" Keystone XL Pipeline !
Bay Area oil refineries, already the areas largest industrial emitters of climate-changing greenhouse gases (GHGs) and deadly particulate matter (PM), are getting ready for a deluge of tar sands and other heavy and dirty crudes. Tell the local Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD), the regulatory agency whose job it is to protect our public health, air quality and the global climate, that Bay Area refineries need immediate enforceable numeric caps or limits on refinery greenhouse gases. These caps will not only protect the climate, but prevent further increases in deadly particulate matter in surrounding communities.

  • Stop the corporate greed. Protect players and use real grass, NOT TURF!
In December, More Perfect Union reported that NFL stadiums will use grass for the 2026 FIFA World Cup games hosted in football stadiums. And the truth is, they’re using taxpayer dollars to pay for it, only to return to using turf after the games are over. Football players are 28% more likely to suffer lower body injuries on turf than on grass, but billionaire owners of NFL teams refuse to listen, putting players in danger. Enough is enough! We must come together to stop this corporate greed. Will you sign the petition demanding that all NFL teams use grass, not turf, to protect their players?

  • HELP ADJUNCTS SURVIVE
We, the undersigned, call upon the administration of Union County College, Cranford, New Jersey, to bargain a fair and equitable contract with its adjunct faculty. The Union County College Chapter of AFT Local 2222 and the Union County College administration have been meeting for more than 16 months to negotiate a contract. The parties are now in mediation, where the union has compromised substantially. The outstanding issues are pay and the insistence of Union County College on limiting adjunct faculty members to a maximum of 9 credit hours of teaching per semester- for some dedicated adjunct faculty this means a 50% pay cut per year. The proposed pay cut is unnecessary and threatens the incomes- and the lives-of the faculty who will be subject to it. One of Union County College’s adjunct faculty members wrote: I have chemotherapy therapy every three weeks for a blood disorder that I suffer as a result of lupus. Between the chemotherapy and the other medications that I have to take for health issues I spend the entire amount of money I make every month! I am working just to pay for the chemotherapy and prescriptions so that I won’t bleed to death. A cut in pay means that I will have to decide between pain medication and medication that will keep my health from declining. The college should respect the ruling of the IRS with respect to the Affordable Care Act and allow adjunct faculty to teach up to 12 credit hours a semester, since many adjunct faculty depend on course assignments to make their living- and, in some cases, to save their lives. Nearly half of the classes at the college are taught by adjunct faculty. Putting our students first means making adjunct faculty positions livable situations for the professors who teach these students. We urge the Board to direct the college’s administration to settle a contract NOW that preserves the ability of adjunct faculty to teach 12 credit hours per semester and also pays a living wage.

  • Force the FDA to ban companies poisoning our food with sugars, dyes, and pesticides
I can't imagine why our government would allow these companies to poison our children and families with the food dyes, metals, pesticides, and extremely large amounts of sugar being added to our foods. The narrative that I have seen is "well these foods aren't bad when consumed in small doses" which may be the case, but if all of our food is poisoned, then it is no longer small doses. It is now being ingested regularly. The Democratic party, who is supposed to be fighting for these regulations has been in charge of the federal government for 12 of the last 16 years. That means for 12 years the FDA could have regulated these companies. But they didn't.    How is it that we manufacture a large number of products for Canada that do not include these ingredients in their food and export the food to them, but we cannot do the same for the American people. I am a disabled American Veteran who fought in the Iraq war and cannot understand how we have allowed these companies to wage an all-out attack on the food the American families are ingesting.    I would like to know what actions can be taken to help ensure the future of this country's citizens going forward. I would like to know what we as citizens can do to stop being poisoned by food companies around the world and in the United States "Supposedly" the greatest country ever. I would like to know why the taxpayer funded FDA is allowing companies to poison us? The whole purpose of the FDA is to ensure food is safe, and once it is found to be unsafe, it should be banned. Why is the FDA not doing their only job? Why are our government officials not doing their part to ensure the FDA is doing their part, and if they cannot do their jobs, why are we still entrusting them with this responsibility? I understand your families do not have to eat the poison being released into our communities because you are wealthy enough, but majority of Americans are not and deserve an answer.

  • Let's Fix Congress....
Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling: "I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election. The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971 - before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc. Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took one (1) year or less to become the law of the land - all because of public pressure. Congressional Reform Act of 2012 1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office. 2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose. 3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do. 4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%. 5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people. 6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people. 7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 12/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women. Congress made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work. THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!

  • Don't let Larry Summers head the Fed
Picking Larry Summers for Fed chair would be exactly the wrong message to send at the moment. Summers is one of the main architects of the policies that have given us the worst downturn since the Great Depression. It would be an especially bad signal to send when there is an outstanding pick already at the Fed serving as Vice-Chair, Janet Yellen.

  • Don't torpedo President Obama's Iran Agreement
Please back President Obama's diplomatic approach to Iran. Now is not the time to undermine negotiations with calls for increased sanctions or unrealistic demands for a final deal. Don't lead us down a path that could lead to another senseless war in the Middle East.

  • Medical Community against police violence Open letter
OPEN LETTER TO OUR STATE REPRESENTATIVES We are medical professionals in the Pioneer Valley and wish to promote harm reduction to our community. That is part of our job. Police violence against the people in the Springfield community is systemic, long stating and targets vulnerable populations such as the poor, homeless, people with mental illness and people with addiction disorders. This is evidenced by this recent Boston Globe report https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/07/25/metro/one-worst-police-departments-country/ and the US Department of Justice report https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-announces-findings-investigation-narcotics-bureau-springfield. As medical professionals we are required to report suspected abuse in the elderly, children, and disabled populations. We propose to expand these protections to injuries suspected to be the result of police violence. These injuries should be reported to an independent agency that is being proposed as new legislation in the Massachusetts legislature. We ask our legislators to propose additional new legislation that would mandate reporting by medical professionals of all injuries suspected of being caused by the police. The reports would go to the new proposed agency. We ask our legislature to put forward such legislation.

  • Petition to Appeal the USTA Friend at Court Committee Decision for Mixed and Combo State Playoffs
Due to the interpretation in Friend at Court of the amount of rest players are required between matches in a tournament by USTA National, USTA Southern’ s Adult League committee voted to only allow players to advance on one team at Mixed and Combo Sectionals. The USTA South Carolina Adult League Committee voted to follow USTA Southern and only allow players to advance on one State Championship events that take place on the same weekend. This regulation change will begin with the Mixed Championships August 25-28 in Lexington, SC. This Petition seeks to overturn this decision and let all players who advance to State Playoffs to make their own decisions as it relates to playing on multiple teams at the same NTRP Level. It is discriminatory, specifically ageist in nature, as it only applies to players over 40 and playing on teams at the same level. Different NTRP level players who advance are still able to play on multiple teams, therefore so should all players regardless of age or level. Players should be allowed to make their own decisions and manage their own schedules if they have earned the right to compete at State Playoffs for Mixed and Combo Seasons.
