1/24 UPDATE: Trump just committed to withholding disaster relief if the governor doesn't pass suppressive voter ID laws or "release water" in the state—a misleading directive that experts have debunked. Not only is he tying his political agenda to the withholding of critical aid, but has now escalated his attacks by threatening to eliminate federal disaster relief entirely. Right now, the tragic wildfires raging across Southern California have killed dozens of people and displaced tens of thousands from their homes. But instead of working to support those trying to survive and rebuild, Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress are exploiting this climate disaster to spread disinformation and sow chaos for political points. And this isn't the first time. Right-wing disinformation and attacks against disaster workers prevented people from getting the urgent help they needed in the wake of devastating natural disasters like Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Conservative-fueled conspiracies have even resulted in meteorologists receiving death threats for reporting on the weather and explaining climate science. Accessible and accurate information, including weather forecasts and disaster relief, can be lifesaving for those impacted. Instead of focusing on helping our communities recover from these latest natural disasters, Republicans disseminated harmful disinformation about FEMA's response and relief efforts, discouraging people from getting the help they urgently need. And they're doing it again. Donald Trump and Republicans must stop waging disinformation campaigns that erode public trust in our institutions; our safety and our climate future depend on it. Our nation's true power is best demonstrated by our willingness to seek peace before war. We urge you to work cooperatively with the entire international community and support President Obama's interim agreement with Iran. Congressman Cantor's bill undermines the substantial diplomatic progress that has already been made. The world rejoices while voices of intolerance once again demonstrate that the real WMD's are located in the hearts of those who are afraid to first seek peace through negotiation.

We need to allow educators to teach and not train to test simply to keep their jobs and school funding. Children learn by project based activities and not by scores on expensive tests that only limit learning potential. I doubt Microsoft, Apple, and various publishing firms need the extra revenue. The California Bail Reform Act of 2017 will ensure that people are not held in dangerous, overcrowded jails after an arrest simply because they cannot afford to post bail. The effect of the Act will be to ensure that people return to court as required and that the public is protected while ending the current bail system’s cruel discrimination against low-income Californians and people of color.

The New York State Workers’ Compensation Board withdrew its harmful cuts to injured workers and issued a revised proposal November 22nd. While it is a significant improvement and victory, it also includes potential cuts on knee, hip, and shoulder replacements. We are asking the Board to consider eliminating any and all cuts to injured workers in this current proposal.
