  • CNN: Stop Giving Trump Free Airtime!
Donald Trump knows how to manipulate the media into covering his speeches live and doing exclusive events—giving him valuable free airtime to spew vitriol, lies, and dangerous disinformation. News networks need to stop showing his speeches live.

  • Syracuse City school district is still underfunded... by over 700 million dollars.
We, the undersigned citizens of Syracuse, New York, urge you to ensure that the Syracuse City School District receives at least $28 million beyond what was in the Executive Budget proposal for the 2016-2017 school year. In addition, we would like the revisions to Section 3635 of the NYS Education Law approved. The additional language will allow Syracuse to provide transportation to all K – 12 students who reside more than ½ mile from the school they attend. In 10 years: The number of students living in poverty has increased. The number of refugee students has increased. The number of positions in the district has been reduced by over 750 staff members. New York State has failed to meet their funding obligations. It is time for the governor and our state legislators to fix the funding formula and fund Syracuse through the promised foundation aid. Syracuse is owed $700 million in unpaid Foundation Aid and $55 million in unpaid Gap Elimination Aid (GEA). Petition statement to be delivered to Assembly Member Catherine Nolan (NY-37), Assembly Member William Magnarelli (NY-129), Assembly Member Pamela J. Hunter (NY-128), Temporary President of the Senate Sen. John Flanagan (NY-2), Senator Carl Marcellino, Chair, Education Committee, Sen. John DeFrancisco (NY-50), Senator David Valesky (NY-59) and Governor Andrew Cuomo.

  • New Jersey For Criminal Justice Reform
In the US, we know that people of color, particularly black, brown, and Native Americans, are disproportionately incarcerated compared to white individuals. NJ is one of the most diverse states in the nation, yet has incredibly high levels of inequity and injustice when it comes to our criminal justice system. We at Our Revolution Essex County NJ are fighting to change that! In NJ, • African Americans make up less than 15% of the population but account for more than 60% of the state prison population; • As compared to their white counterparts, the rate of black to white incarceration is 12 to 1, the HIGHEST in the nation (the national rate is 5 to 1); and • Black youth are over 20 times more likely to be incarcerated and placed into a secure facility than their white counterparts. We are calling on the NJ legislative body to enact the following policies: 1) End the decriminalization of marijuana, legalize it, and expunge the records of those convicted for possession/use of marijuana. 2) Proactively release findings of police misconduct. 3) Restore the ability for incarcerated individuals to vote while in prison, not after their probationary sentence that can last months after release. 4) End the practice of private prisons in the state. 5) End the use of tax payer dollars that fund or partner with ICE detention centers/agencies. 6) Commit to increasing funds for programs and education aimed at reducing the rates of recidivism in the state.

  • Sacramento Bee: Don't Publish Climate Denial
The Los Angeles Times has adopted a policy of refusing to publish letters that deny climate change, and you should follow suit. End climate change denial in your newspaper and comment section. Reddit Science forum has also banned comments that propagate false science and opinions that deny human caused climate change as the evidence is overwhelming. http://dailycaller.com/2013/12/18/reddit-bans-comments-from-global-warming-skeptics/ Unless the contributor has the credentials of Albert Einstein or one of the Nobel Laureates, or has passed peer reviews from leading credible scientific journals, then we would gladly listen to their presentation of evidence. As it is, they are sowing apathy, inaction, laziness to solutions, and return to status quo without presenting much scientific evidence that has withstood peer reviews to support their position. Their opinions have become counterproductive in light of the undeniable evidences presented to human caused climate change where more than 97% of credible scientists worldwide has agreed. It would be credible for your organization to believe in sound scientific studies. But we do keep an open mind, and it now requires excellent credentials and extraordinarily good scientific evidence before they can be published. Any new scientific finding that goes contrary to the majority of existing evidences would now require extraordinary evidence to the current overwhelming majority status.

  • Protect Small Business Transportation Brokers
CONTACT YOUR SENATORS AND CONGRESSMEN IMMEDIATELY! I would like to call attention to the House Bill H.R.7 [Report 12-397], which raise the surety bond requirement from $10,000 to $100,000. First, this proposed law affecting transportation is unrelated to the main purpose of this bill as it is a transportation matter which involves neither energy nor the infrastructure and deals only with a regulatory matter. This provision is buried on page 557 of this large bill in order to hide this important matter from those affected by its passage. This is an attempt to corner the market on the transportation industry by discriminating against small brokerage firms not able to obtain a $100,000 Surety Bond or Trust Agreement. We are in the business of supplying small start-up brokerages with a $10,000 Trust, referred to as a BMC 85 by the FMCSA. The majority of new applicants are African-American women and other minorities as well as the small business men & women. These people are trying their best to be financially responsible and help the economy of this country If allowed to become law, this bill will deny an entire class of citizens the opportunity to attain financial stability. This bill will make it impossible to start a business for a small sum of money. In these tough economic times, this bill will only make things harder for people to stay in business. Therefore it is imperative that each one of us contact our representative (Senator or Congressman) and let them know that this bill will cripple the small businesses ability to complete with the big brokerages.
