Operation Former US Presidents for Democracy!*PLEASE POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA + SHARE WITH FRIENDS!* This petition encourages people concerned about government actions eroding our democracy to write to former Presidents Bush, Clinton, Obama, and Biden, encouraging them to act individually and together to publicly state their support for democracy over party. At a time when core democratic principles are under assault, together we can urge these former presidents to speak out publicly in defense of the Constitution, the rule of law, and the peaceful transfer of power. The hope is that they will influence elected officials—from city council members to senators—who take their cues from national leadership. Below is a letter you can copy & paste - or write a message in your own words. The postal addresses and emails of the former presidents are provided below. The organizer also will send a collective message from petition signers to each of the former presidents: Bush, Clinton, Obama, and Biden the first week in July 2025. Of course, you can send direct letters to the former presidents at any time. Thanks for taking the time to read and consider this. *TOGETHER, LET'S MAKE POSITIVE CHANGES HAPPEN!* ---------------------------- To the Honorable Former Presidents of the United States, At a time when core democratic principles are under assault, I write to urge you—together—to speak out publicly in defense of the Constitution, the rule of law, and the peaceful transfer of power. Across the country, we are witnessing efforts to undermine free elections, weaken judicial independence, restrict press freedom, and erode trust in democratic institutions. These are not ordinary political disputes; they are fundamental threats to the system you each swore to protect. Your voices carry unmatched moral authority. A unified, nonpartisan statement from you would remind Americans that democracy must come before party—and that no individual is above the Constitution. Such a message would not only steady the public but also powerfully influence every elected official in the country—from city council members to senators—who take their cues from national leadership. Your courage could embolden others to act with conscience rather than calculation. This is not about endorsing a party or policy. It is about defending the framework that makes peaceful political disagreement possible. History will ask what was done when democracy was threatened. A statement from all of you—former leaders of different parties, united in principle—could mark a turning point. We the People ask Congress, POTUS and VPOTUS to Postpone approval of the Electoral College Vote ...A dark cloud of illegitimacy hangs over the pending presidency of Donald Trump, given the facts below put out by former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich. We request that the Electoral College vote scheduled for December 19, 2016 be delayed and if necessary Congress and/or SCOTUS should declare that President Obama remain as the chief executive until either a new date is set for an Electoral College vote once the following conditions are met, or if after these conditions are met it is determined a new election is needed, until after such new election. Conditions: 1.Trump must release his tax returns. The latest information as put out recently by Newsweek reveals numerous conflicts of interest with foreign countries that could leave President-Elect Trump with possible violations of the emoluments clause of the Constitution on Day One as well as possible blackmail by foreign countries. A scheduled press conference on this issue where Trump promised to explain how he would deal with these issues has been indefinitely postponed. 2. The CIA must make public its report on Russia’s intervention in the U.S. elections in support of Trump so that all may get an honest assessment of how serious the interference was and the electors can make an informed decision as per Alexander Hamilton in Federalist No. 68* 3. The Department of Justice under President Obama's direction must open a full investigation into Russian interference in the election and ties to the Trump campaign given the facts below. President Obama already said the following on Monday night on Trevor Noah's The Daily Show: “You had what was very clear relationships between members of the president-elect’s campaign team and Russians, and a professed shared view on a bunch of issues,” Obama said. Given his statements, a full investigation not tied to a partisan Congress is in order. Facts: 1. The CIA has found credible evidence that Russia intervened in the election in order to help Trump become president. 2. It has been suggested that Trump owes vast sums of money to Russian oligarchs, friends of Putin, who have also invested substantially in Trump’s enterprises -- which may explain why Trump won’t disclose his tax returns, which would show evidence of these deals. 3. Several of Trump’s key campaign aides – including his former campaign manager, Paul Manafort – have close ties to Russia. Between 2007 and 2012, Manafort received some $12.7 million in cash payments from a pro-Russian political party in Ukraine and has still been shown to be in touch with the Trump transition group. 4. During the campaign, Trump said he admired Putin, questioned whether the U.S. should continue to support NATO, and argued that Putin was justified in moving into Ukraine. 5. Trump chose as his Secretary of State ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson, who is also close to Putin. In 2013, Putin awarded Tillerson the Order of Friendship, one of the highest honors Russia gives to foreign citizens. Tillerson came up through the ranks at Exxon by managing the company's Russia account. After becoming CEO, Exxon bet billions on Russia's vast oil resources through a partnership with Russian oil giant Rosneft, owned partly by the Kremlin. Putin himself attended the 2011 signing ceremony for the deal. Russia has already indicated it would welcome Tillerson being named America's top diplomat. 6. Trump was defeated in the actual voting by a startling—and still growing—2.8 million votes. Clinton’s popular vote victory margin is now over 2 percent, thus handing Trump the largest defeat suffered by a candidate elevated to the presidency by the Electoral College in modern history. Given that the difference in three key states that gave Trump the victory was a little over 79,000 votes and the aforementioned Russian interference, gives all the more reason to investigate such a close electoral margin. *In Federalist No. 68, Alexander Hamilton wrote that the electors would prevent those with “Talents for low intrigue, and the little arts of popularity” from becoming president. They would also stop anyone who would “convulse the community with any extraordinary or violent movements.” The second goal was to stop foreign interference in elections. In the founding period, the framers were extremely concerned about infiltration by rivals including Great Britain. In Federalist No. 68, Hamilton wrote that one major purpose of the Electoral College was to stop the “desire in foreign powers to gain an improper ascendant in our councils.” He said that the college would “Guard against all danger of this sort … with the most provident and judicious attention” from the electors. The third goal was to prevent poor administration of government. This is a less well-known purpose of the Electoral College, but it is again expressly discussed in Federalist No. 68. Hamilton wrote that “the true test of a good government is its aptitude and tendency to produce a good administration,” and for that reason,...126 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Sara O'Bannon

Restore Critical Funding For The Disabled!Budget Cuts Impact over 9,000 Michiganders with Disabilities - Michigan’s Centers for Independent Living (CILs), lost 25% of their funding to other Department of Health and Human Service priorities. - The federally established CIL program supports 40,000 people with disabilities per year to live independently and achieve economic self-sufficiency, educates 80,000 people on inclusion and barrier-free communities and has demonstrated a strong return on investment of $41 million in 2018 alone. - These cuts will lead to a reduction in services that will impact 9,200 people with disabilities and cause lay-offs of 33 employees, many of whom have disabilities. - The line item cut is titled Independent Living Services. The total cut was $3.5 million: $2 million was current funding and $1.5 million was a proposed increase. - Many people with disabilities depend on CILs to help them achieve their goals to find jobs, move out of nursing homes, regain skills after acquiring a disability and transition out of special education into adulthood. - A majority of both staff and governing boards of each of the 15 CILs are people with an array of disabilities, ranging from wheelchair users, people who are blind, staff who have mental illnesses and employees who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. CIL services slated to be cut include: o Mobile outreach to rural communities; o Crisis services; o Voter accessibility work; o Census 2020 efforts; o Emergency preparedness; o Outreach to help people move out of nursing homes; and, o Occupational therapy to help people facing nursing home admission remain in their own homes. The Disability Network will continue its advocacy efforts with decision-makers to restore $3.5 million to the Independent Living Services budget.13 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jeana Tall

Land and Water Conservation Fund, THE LWCF MUST BE SAVEDJoe Pakootas has issued a paper on LWCF (pakootasforcongress.com). In 1965 Congress, under the leadership of Sen. Henry “Scoop” Jackson, established a Federal Program, the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), to provide funds and matching grants to federal, state and local governments for the acquisition of land and water, easements of land and water, and for the benefit of all Americans. The main emphases of the Fund are recreation and the protection of national treasures such as parks, protected forests and wildlife areas (Congress, 1964, p.1). The LWCF has a broad-based coalition of support and oversight, including the National Parks Conservation Association, Environment America, The Wilderness Society, the Land Trust Alliance, and the Nature Conservancy. Allocations are made based upon project demands from communities, input from federal land management agencies and presidential recommendations to Congress. The project requests experience intense competition as they are considered by an Appropriations Committee. For the past 50 years, the primary source of income to the fund has been fees paid into a federal agency fund by oil and gas companies involved in offshore drilling. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers stated it is her intent to de-authorize legislation such as this that has been on the books for years. Initially authorized for a 25-year period, the LWCF Fund will expire September 30th without Congressional action. We should all be concerned that this Fund may not be considered a top priority by Rep. Rodgers and her party, and that it could wind up being allowed to die. In the meantime, the citizens of Eastern Washington will miss out on the only opportunity for funding sources needed to support our treasured local recreational spaces. As someone who cares deeply about our environment, Joe urges you to please contact Cathy's office and ask that she fight for reauthorization of this important legislation before it’s too late.110 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Rose Araya

TAX REFORMBACKGROUND AND REFERENCE: "I consider it my patriotic duty to keep Elvis up in the 90 percent tax bracket." —Colonel Thomas A. Parker (Recall that during the peak of Elvis Presley's career, there really was such a thing as a 90% tax bracket: in fact, it even went up to 94%.) In 1935, the top tax bracket for an individual taxpayer was 63%. That rate kicked in at $1,000,000 of income (equivalent to over $17.5 million in 2015 dollars). After WWII, upper tier rates were 90% until 1964 when they were reduced to 77%. Top tax rates remained in the 70% range until 1982 when they dropped to 50%. In comparison, for the tax 2013, the top tax bracket was 39.6%, kicking in at over $413,000. PETITION: We the People, in order to protect the financial health of our nation and thus ensure continued protection of our individual and collective rights, propose a new tax structure: A SLIDING tax rate per the current tax schedule, on each individual income. Smoothing out current tax rates and adding upper level brackets, this might look like: no tax on $0-$10,000 10% on $10,001-$30,000 15% on $30,001-$50,000 20% on $500,001 - $75,000 25% on $75,001 - $150,000 30% on $150,001 - $350,000 35% on $350,001 - $500,000 40% on $500,001 - $1,000,000 45% on $1,000,001 -$10,000,000 50% on $10,000,001 and above Thus the effective tax rate on one making $40k would be under 9% and the earner would net $36,500 while one earning $1.5 million would be taxed 38.1% overall and would net $928,500. As income levels rise, marginal propensity to consume tends to drop. This tax program still provides incentive to grow earnings and thrive. Lifestyle still increases with income and this allows lower income persons a better opportunity to care for themselves.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Tamara Parisio

Permanent Voting Rights for ALLVoter suppression laws have been implemented by the Republican Party in many states, especially here in Georgia. These laws are disenfranchising millions of voters. History has shown the need to include additional legislation to ensure all citizens the right to vote. The 15th Amendment (February 3, 1870) declares, "rights of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude." (Library of Congress, 2012). However many states created opposing laws to take voting rights away that the 15th Amendment granted. As such, Congress determined that the existing federal anti-discrimination laws were not sufficient to overcome the resistance by state officials to enforce the 15th Amendment (U.S. Dept. of Justice, 2012). President Johnson signed the resulting legislation, The Voting Rights Act, into law on August 6, 1965. This act served the purpose it was meant to serve, and many were able to vote for the first time. Unfortunately, in 2012, many U.S. citizens find ourselves in situations where our right to vote is threatened with voter suppression laws. Additionally, the Voting Rights Act has to be re-signed every 25 years, and does not permanently protect the right to vote. Please sign this petition and urge the U.S. Senate and U. S. Congress to ensure that all American citizens will have the PERMANENT right to vote by making additions to the verbiage in the 15th Amendment and Voting Rights Act. Resources: Library of Congress. No Pay Raise for Congress After Republicans Blocked a Pay Raise for Parents!Stand with us to tell the House Speaker and House Republicans that they don't deserve an $8,000 pay raise after blocking a $3,600 pay raise for parents! Last year, every single Republican voted to end sending parents up to $300 every month to make it more affordable to start a family. While the expanded Child Tax Credit was in place, it was a 1000% return on investment, with $10 spent in the economy for every $1 spent on working families, and if it were in place for another year, it would lead to the creation of 500,000 full-time private sector jobs. But, now, House Republicans are moving to line their own pockets with taxpayer dollars instead of boosting the country's economy. The expanded Child Tax Credit payments aligned naturally with the way many working families budget — month by month — and their reliability reduced household stress and enabled parents to work, plan, and provide for their children and communities. Parents were twice as likely to stop short-term payday loans, using pawnshops, or even selling their plasma to make ends meet. They reported starting new professional trainings while receiving the credit, helping them run their own small businesses or start one. With their $3,600 pay raise, the overwhelming majority of parents reported spending payments on the basics for their kids — food, rent, utilities, clothing, and education — helping lift 4 million children from poverty. In total, 61 million children across the country benefitted from the expanded Child Tax Credit, leading to an immediate 25% drop in food insufficiency rates, meaning fewer kids went hungry and more were eating healthier meals. Republicans, however, took that away. Add your name to join us. It's time for the House Speaker and House Republicans to raise parents' pay before their own!58,570 of 75,000 SignaturesCreated by Economic Security Project Action
