  • .@nytimes: Don't Make Up Statistics on Venezuela
The New York Times must stop using made-up, non-standard economic statistics in its reporting on Venezuela. It must use the same standards in its economic reporting on Venezuela that it uses in economic reporting on other countries and that other major U.S. newspapers use in their economic reporting.

  • Support President Barack Obama in taking immediate action to stop climate change
This petition requests President Obama to take immediate action to address global climate change and the rapid melting of the Arctic by meeting with the leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Europe and Mexico. This is a global problem that demands united action and immediate worldwide implementation. We ask that President Obama inform the American people of the severity of climate change and increasing global temperatures in a public address. Research and climate scientists have revised estimates regarding the Arctic’s rapidly shrinking volume of ice referring to it’s melting as a “Death Spiral.” This fact should be sickening to all world nations since the ice caps are crucial for reflecting sunlight back into the atmosphere. If immediate action is not taken global temperatures will continue to warm and unpredictable and erratic weather patterns will become the world’s norm. Increasing heat waves, droughts, floods, tornados, hurricanes and enormous wild fires such as the Rim Fire near and in Yosemite National Park this (2013) summer, which fueled by drought weakened forests burned over 400 square miles of wilderness and cost over 100 million dollars to extinguish, will continue at an unprecedented scale. Unexpected torrential floods such as Colorado’s recent flood which caused an estimated 1 billion dollars in damage to 18 different cities and towns with what the National Weather Service referred to as “Biblical” rainfall amounts will continue to cause deaths and massive destruction to property, wild lands and infrastructure. The time has come for President Obama to take his position as the leader of a world power. Mr. President, please take immediate action to development and implement a global plan to prevent the loss of Arctic ice and halt the warming of our planet. Please address the American public on the consequences and enormous implications of our planet’s increasing temperatures and the loss of the Arctic Ice. The time for action is now. Waiting until the fifth IPCC assessment report and negotiating a new global climate agreement for adoption in 2015 to take effect in 2020 is much too late.

  • Allan Morsley: Encourage the judge to allow Mr. Morsley to return home and help the community
In 1995, the Clinton administration introduced several legislations including 3 strikes. Allan Morsley suffered being designated as a “career offender” although this was his first federal offense. He was only 23-years old. As a youth, Allan Morsley was subjected to poverty and a negative environment during the time known as the "crack era". They used his sealed youthful offense to help designate him as a “career offender”. Despite Mr. Morsley raising credible arguments in his defense, he was believed to be beyond rehabilitation.

  • Small Business Downtown Florence Initiative
Dear City Council, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to you today with a heart full of passion and a vision for the future of our beloved downtown Florence. As a member of the community, I am excited to share with you an initiative that has the potential to not only elevate our city's brand but also create new opportunities for small businesses like ours. Our small business is dedicated to enhancing the aesthetic and appeal of downtown Florence by introducing visually stunning displays that serve as a platform for both city-run content and local business advertisements. We believe that this initiative will not only beautify our city but also create a vibrant atmosphere that encourages community engagement. What sets our proposal apart is our commitment to providing these displays for free, with 75% of the content being dedicated to city-run information and events, and the remaining 25% serving as a valuable advertising space for our local small businesses. Furthermore, we are eager to share our success with the city by offering a revenue-sharing model, ensuring that the initiative becomes a sustainable source of income for Florence. We are proud to have garnered support from neighboring cities, underscoring the positive impact this initiative can have on our community. However, to turn this vision into reality, we need the support of our local leaders. We are seeking permission from the city of Florence, particularly from the City Council and the Mayor's office, to proceed with this venture. By championing this cause, we hope to not only enhance our city's brand but also provide small businesses with a fresh avenue to connect with our community. The economic benefits, increased foot traffic, and overall positive impact on our city's vibrancy are just a few of the many advantages we envision. We kindly ask for your support in getting this proposal pushed through. Your endorsement and influence can make a significant difference in ensuring the success of this initiative. Together, we can transform downtown Florence into a thriving hub of community engagement and economic growth. Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to the opportunity to discuss this proposal further and address any questions or concerns you may have. Sincerely, A.C. Rockett Founder, DigiSigns UNA Alumni

  • Tell Kroger: Stop selling food grown with toxic pesticides!
Dear Mr. McMullen, I’m deeply concerned that Kroger has not made a commitment to eliminate toxic pesticides, including neonicotinoids, chlorpyrifos and glyphosate, in its supply chain. These pesticides are highly toxic and I urge your company to take these actions for the sake of my health, the health of your customers and the environment. I also urge Kroger to increase USDA-certified organic food and beverages to 15 percent of overall offerings by 2025, prioritizing domestic, regional and local producers. Bees and other pollinators are essential to the production of one out of every three bites of food we eat, but they’re dying at alarming rates. This year’s newly-released bee die-off numbers show that they’re declining unsustainably. This should be of urgent concern to you and your business -- without bees, your store would run short of many of the products it sells including nuts, fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and dairy, and more. Globally, between $235 billion and $577 billion worth of annual global food production relies on direct contributions by pollinators. Pesticides are key drivers in the decline of invertebrate pollinating species, 40 percent of which are on the brink of extinction. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has designated over 80 pesticides as toxic to pollinators. A report by Friends of the Earth, "Swarming the Aisles II: Rating top retailers on bee-friendly and organic food," grades 25 of the largest food retailers in the U.S on their policies and practices regarding pesticides, organic offerings and transparency. Of the top food retailers, 20 received an “F” for failing to have a publicly available policy to reduce or eliminate pesticide use to protect pollinators. Kroger received an “F” in this category too. Kroger faces both supply chain and reputational risks for failing to reduce the use of pollinator-toxic pesticides in its supply chain and phase out neonicotinoids, glyphosate and chlorpyrifos. Pesticides have “catastrophic impacts on the environment, human health and society as a whole,” according to a recent UN report. At the end of February, the European Food Safety Authority updated its 2013 risk assessments of neonics, which examined impacts on wild bees, bumblebees, solitary bees and honeybees and concluded neonics pose risks to bees. In response, the European Union recently voted to ban all outdoor uses of neonicotinoids. Further, the Task Force on Systemic Pesticides, a global body of independent scientists, recently published a new report that analyzed thousands of studies and concluded that neonicotinoids represent a major worldwide threat to biodiversity and ecosystems. The report called for an immediate stop to agricultural uses of systemic pesticides. Additionally, the Task Force released another new study which reviewed 200 studies to assess mass use of systemic insecticides in agriculture, focusing on their effects on crop yields and the development of pest resistance to these compounds after two decades. The study notes an overreliance on insecticides including neonicotinoids and the authors identified a diverse range of alternative pest-management strategies available for large-scale crop production. Chlorpyrifos is a toxic, nerve agent pesticide proven to cause brain damage in children and known to harm the environment and wildlife. It is found in air, water and people’s bodies. People come in contact with the chemical through residues on food, drinking water contamination and toxic drift from pesticide application. In 2015, after extensive study, EPA scientists recommended that the pesticide be banned for all uses. Despite EPA scientists' recommendation to ban this toxic pesticide, Scott Pruitt -- the head of the EPA appointed by President Trump -- overrode the recommendations and reversed the decision to ban chlorpyrifos. The science is clear that chlorpyrifos is unsafe and food retailers should stop selling food grown with this pesticide. Glyphosate is the most widely used herbicide in the world. It is leading to the decline of monarch butterflies. Plus, glyphosate is linked to adverse health impacts. In 2015, the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) declared glyphosate a probable human carcinogen. Organic farms -- farms that have eliminated all synthetic pesticides -- have been shown to support 50 percent more pollinator species than conventional farms, while also protecting and regenerating the water, soil and other resources that we need to produce healthy food for generations to come. As the second largest food retailer in the U.S., I urge Kroger to be a leader on this issue to protect human health and the environment. I call on your company to adopt formal policies to stop selling food grown with neonicotinoids, glyphosate, chlorpyrifos and other pollinator-toxic pesticides and significantly increase your USDA organic offerings, prioritizing local, regional and domestic suppliers. Thank you,

  • PRESERVE THE VOTING RIGHTS ACT OF 1965
Every American citizen who endorses the notion that this great nation of ours symbolizes "liberty and justice for all", must also embrace the democratic principle of "One Person, One Vote". Weakening the VRA- in any way, shape, or form- will be a death knell for fair elections in this country. As progressive elections administration practices in parts of Europe continue to raise the bar and support the argument for uniformity and standardization (between the U.S. States), we, the citizens of the United States of America, simply cannot afford for existing laws that were formulated specifically to prevent Minority Voter Suppression and Minority Voter Disenfranchisment to be repealed. Please, sign your name to this Petition: "Preserve the Voting Rights Act [VRA] of 1965". It will be forwarded to the Supreme Court of the United States, which has begun review of a lawsuit filed by an Alabama County (Shelby) arguing the constitutionality of the VRA's Section 5 stipulation. Section 5 establishes jurisdictions that must submit a formal request to the United State's Justice Department, prior to instituting ANY change to the practices, policies, or procedures by which those jurisdictions administer the vote. Reflect, if you will, upon the many controversial irregularities that have transpired in certain U.S. States only since Year 2000! Well, many of those incidents directly impacted MINORITY voters, which means they (ultimately) affected EVERY voter. Even a full decade later, in Year 2012, the administration of American elections is far from the fluid process it should be, and this appears particularly the case in U.S. Counties and States with a sizable MINORITY voting population. This is unacceptable! This is undemocratic! This is un-American! We need the VRA, and every component of it, as it presently exists! Protect the VRA! Please sign! Thank you. And God Bless America. Patriotically, COUNT EVERY VOTE BUFFALO [email protected] Https://www.facebook.com/counteveryvotebuffalo.lifteveryvoice 24/7 Voter Assistance & Complaint Hotline: (716) 817-0018 Buffalo, New York, USA

  • End the Debt Crisis with Debt-free United States Notes!
Money should belong to the people, not the banks, and should be issued in sufficient quantity to meet the productive capacity of the nation, not withheld from circulation by banks that did nothing to deserve it. Congress is empowered by Article 1, Section 8, of the United States Constitution to produce debt-free United States Notes at any time, for any reason, and actually DID create them under president Lincoln (the original "greenbacks," $450 million) to defeat the South during the Civil War, when New York City banks wanted 24-36% interest. This is money that would not have to be borrowed (thereby avoiding any debt-ceiling issues), taxed to pay for, or backed by gold. It is legal tender, acceptable for all payments, including taxes. This new money need NOT be inflationary if dedicated toward those areas of society which are in deflation, such as infrastructure. U.S. Notes would function as a "Public Option for Money." A bill sponsored by Representatives Dennis Kucinich and John Conyers, the N.E.E.D. Act, HR 2990 (formerly HR6550), would produce U.S. Notes, specifically for infrastructure, Social Security, and universal healthcare, and make the Federal Reserve a department under Treasury—for the first time, a true branch of government. Even if you don't believe in the full measure of HR 2990, our current debt-ceiling crisis, which comes on the heels of the Federal Reserve pumping $16 trillion into the banking system, leaving most Americans struggling with over 9% unemployment and asking "Where is my bailout?", points to the need for a real, meaningful—and immediate—solution that would provide jobs and opportunities. United States Notes were our country's longest-living currency, lasting until the mid-1990s. They were accepted everywhere and were widely embraced when they first came out in the late nineteenth century. It is time again for America to take back its sovereign right to "coin money"—Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution. Support the true greenback, United States Notes!
