We, the undersigned, disagree that immigration reform should hinge on giant military spending and the militarization of the Mexican/United States border region. We are against the $46 billion Corker-Hoeven "border surge" amendment that includes a $38 billion windfall for defense contractors—at our expense—and allows the use of weapons of war and spying (with the threat posed by those same weapons of war) upon the six million citizen-residents who call the border region home.

The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (the Senate Intelligence Committee) should invoke its powers under Section 8 of Senate Resolution 400 to declassify the committee’s report on the interrogation and detention practices of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and to declassify the CIA’s internal review corroborating the committee’s report. The full Senate should back the Senate Intelligence Committee in invoking its power to declassify the CIA torture report and other wrongfully classified documents that the public has a right to see. The Obama Administration should expedite the declassification of the committee’s report and the CIA’s internal review.

Prevent severe cuts to the funding of scientific research at private institutions from taking place.

Proposition 13 needs an overhaul to save our schools, and protection services paid through our property tax base. California, a once prosperous state, with state of the art education, excellent fire and police protection, is in grave danger of budget cut backs while corporations make record breaking profits.
