  • Make it Illegal to Buy Counterfeit: Pass Trademark Counterfeit Legislation
We urge you to hold a public hearing on legislation introduced by Council Member Margaret Chin to make it illegal to buy counterfeit trademark goods in New York City (Introduction 544). The ease with which counterfeit goods are sold has negatively impacted the quality of life in neighborhoods across lower Manhattan - especially Chinatown, SoHo, and Tribeca. Counterfeit vendors clog our sidewalks and streets; intimidate and harass local residents; destroy private property; and create a negative image of our neighborhood. Pass Introduction 544 and make it illegal to purchase counterfeit trademark goods in New York City.

  • NY Times: Say it ain't so!
New York Times: Say it ain't so! We need a strong news source keeping us informed about the threats facing our environment now more than ever! With the impacts of global warming becoming more evident every day, gas drillers destroying our clean air and water, and polluting special interests buying off our elected representatives right and left, now is not the time to eliminate your environmental department. I am urging you to keep your environmental desk open to continue its thorough and unbiased environmental coverage.

  • We stand with Albuquerque women
Out-of-state and out-of-touch groups have come to New Mexico in a new effort to judge and shame women city-by-city. But I respect Albuquerque women and their families and their right to keep intensely personal decisions between a woman, her family and her physician. Every pregnancy is different and making decisions to end a pregnancy is a deeply personal and often complex decision in which the government has no place. I agree with the Albuquerque city attorney that a Texas-style bill is an unconstitutional violation of women’s privacy and I stand with those who respect women and vote NO to defeat it.

  • Say yes to a solar energy victory in Rhode Island
I applaud the General Assembly for moving forward with the Distributed Generation Growth bill (H7727-Ruggiero/S2690-Sosnowski), which adds 160 megawatts to the current renewable energy program and creates a new class for residential-scale solar projects. Expanding renewable energy in Rhode Island will benefit our environment with cleaner air and displaced global warming pollution, and it will also benefit our economy by creating new green job opportunities and by saving Rhode Islanders money in the face of rising fossil fuel costs. Please support H7727/S2690 and help bring the legislation to a timely vote.

  • EPA and FDA: Suspend use of Monsanto's Roundup!
A major new study by MIT researchers has linked the herbicide glyphosate to autism, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, kidney disease, cancers like non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and Parkinson's — and it's the main ingredient in Monsanto's Roundup formula. But despite new research, and trends linking epidemic spikes to the herbicide for decades, the EPA and FDA still consider glyphosate safe and harmless — based almost exclusively on private, industry-produced data! We call on these organizations to suspend the use of Monsanto's Roundup until independent studies prove beyond a doubt that it is safe, doesn't accumulate in our bodies, and isn't linked to these diseases.

  • Our Students deserve their Privacy
New York State needs to withdraw from InBloom and protect our children's personal data and privacy. The NYS Education Department has contracted with Gates-funded InBloom to upload sensitive and identifiable student data to a "cloud" for use by school officials - including private companies contracted by the school district selling educational products and services. Our legislators, the Chancellor of the Board of Regents and Commissioner of Education John King need to know that we take this issue seriously and we want New York State to withdraw from InBloom and protect our children's personal data and privacy.

  • PINEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL GO BACK TO OLD DRESS CODE
Ten days before school, a new dress code was sent out. For some students this is extremely hard to follow. The dress code should have been sent out at the start of summer. A lot of families start school shopping very early, for my family, late June. Many other students and I have already bought clothes that are now against dress code. For many families they do NOT have the money to buy new clothes to fit the dress code. I petition that the dress code should be the same as last year. GO REBELS!!!!❤️

  • Stockpile mifepristone in Connecticut
Please prioritize stockpiling mifepristone in Connecticut before the Trump Administration takes office. A preliminary assessment of needs indicates that the most cost-efficient way to do so is for the state to provide $850,000 to Planned Parenthood of Southern New England as soon as possible for this purpose. There is significant support for this crucial action. Project 2025 looms over us, and we are looking to the state to do all it can to protect key rights--especially women's reproductive rights. Voters are looking to you for the kind of leadership governors in Massachusetts, Washington, California, and New York have shown. Thank you.

  • President Trump: Medical cannabis will help end the opioid epidemic
Medical cannabis has been proven to lower the amount of opioids patients need to find relief from severe, chronic pain. The Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis must include cannabis science in their recommendations.

  • City Kids Don't Stand a Breathing Chance!
Research linking traffic related air pollution to autism, asthma and other health problems is very clear. City kids just don't stand a breathing chance; clean air is hard to find and they are literally suffocating. The Yorkville/East Harlem neighborhood is the most densely populated residential area in the city, with air pollution levels among the worst in the city and East Harlem’s asthma rates among the highest in the nation. There are very few green spaces in NYC for kids to get the exercise they need and clean air to breathe. The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) must review and revoke the Air Facility permits at the East 91st St., Marine Transfer Station (MTS) based on the facts that there are numerous changed conditions, since the permits were first granted, that increase the negative health and safety impacts of this MTS on New Yorkers of all ages – but especially on children’s developing lungs, brains and bodies. The East 91st Street MTS will bring hundreds of diesel polluting garbage trucks every day through the Yorkville/East Harlem area, increasing the already high levels of traffic related air pollution. It is being built a block away from a public housing complex AND right on top of a sports field and recreation center that provides hundreds of inner city kids free classes, including life-saving swimming instructions. Our children are being punished by a system that favors real estate deals and politics over people. It's heartbreaking. There are over 22,000 residents in the 1/4 mile radius of this site. On behalf of ALL New Yorkers and all families raising their children’s in NYC, I implore the DEC to NOT RENEW the Air Facility permit for the East 91st Street MTS.
