Mika Josephine Westwolf, a 22-year-old Native American woman living in Montana, was killed on March 31 as she was walking home along Highway 93. The circumstances surrounding her death are tragic and mysterious—the key suspect has ties to the white supremacist Aryan Nations, the Montana Highway Patrol is refusing to release body camera and dash camera footage, and the family and I are not aware of any investigative requests for nearby businesses to provide surveillance videos. Mika's family is understandably frustrated with the lack of transparency from local authorities, and they are demanding justice for Mika. The Department of Justice needs to intervene because local authorities are being uncooperative and frustratingly slow.

The people demand that House Bill 87 be voted down and not passed into law, as the proposed Bill is no more than another brazen attempt to further deprive U.S. citizens of their constitutional rights to due process of law in Florida's courts, and will be used as a stepping stone to change the State of Florida into a non-judicial foreclosure state.

Accountability is a must in public safety. Require St. Petersburg Police Department officers to wear body cameras. Request that city council adds the cost in the 2019 city budget. Body cameras are a very vital part in the storytelling aspect of police interactions with the citizens they are sworn to protect and serve. "In a field experiment conducted by the Rialto, Calif. Police Department, it was found that when police were equipped with cameras during the test period, use of force incidents and citizen complaints against officers were reduced by 50 and 90 percent respectively" Proper guidelines for body camera use are already in force for the state of Florida. (HB 93) (2016) requires law enforcement agencies that permit their officers to wear body cameras to establish policies for their proper use, maintenance, and storage of their data.

We have a right to know how the food we eat and feed our families is produced, but under current FDA regulations, we don’t have that ability when it comes to genetically engineered foods (GMOs). More than forty countries, including Russia and China, already require labels on genetically engineered foods. And a recent poll found that nearly all Democrats (93%), Independents (90%), and Republicans (89%) support labeling of GMOs. At a time when partisan rancor dominates the public conversation, there are few topics that can muster such overwhelming support. And although over 1 million people submitted comments in favor of labeling, the FDA has yet to act. President Obama, please listen to the American public and speak out in favor of the mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods.

We the undersigned, demand that the Department of Education fire Sallie Mae/Navient and review all contracts with student loan companies that do business with the federal government. The Department must take serious efforts to keep “bad actors” accountable for scamming students; lucrative loan servicing contracts should only be given to companies that hold the interests of student loan borrowers first. (Better yet, let’s make college FREE and fire all contractors). We urge the Department of Education to take immediate action, now!
