Stop the Amazon-MGM merger! We urge you to block Amazon's attempt to buy MGM! If Amazon is permitted to own MGM, consumers will be more forcefully pushed into subscribing to Amazon Prime to access content that should be available across all platforms, and Amazon can use its Fire TV products to keep other streaming devices out. This kind of consolidation allows Amazon to dominate the market and abuse employees.3,944 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by Demand Progress

Break Up Big TechIn July, businesses, airports, hospitals, and more came to a staggering halt when a software update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike took down Microsoft systems across the globe, causing the largest IT outage in history. Travelers were left stranded, health care providers struggled to access medical records, surgeries were canceled, payroll systems froze, and TV broadcasters went dark. The outage disabled an estimated 8.5 million computers—and put on display yet again the dangerous consolidation of power in tech. Sign the petition to urge the FTC to regulate and rein in Big Tech and hold corporations accountable!357 of 400 Signatures

U of C alumni petition against UCPD violenceTo: President Zimmer, the Board of Trustees of the University of Chicago, Ken Manotti, Vice President for Alumni Relations and Development, and Marlon C. Lynch, Associate Vice President and Chief of Police As alumni of the University of Chicago, we were very concerned to hear that four people (including a current student and an alumnus of the UofC) were violently arrested and later charged during a peaceful sit-in at the new medical center in Hyde Park. Regardless of our personal stances on the University’s refusal to consider opening a trauma center for adults, this episode marks a distinct departure from the values of open and free inquiry that we, as alumni, pride ourselves on. It should seem obvious that the application of excessive force and brutality by the police to a group of non-violent protesters can only have the effect of chilling and silencing discourse – the discourse that the University is supposed to create space for and to support. The life of the mind does not exist in a vacuum, insulated from the greater society; it cannot exist without democratic civil participation, like the peaceful demonstrations that occurred on Sunday. It is particularly disturbing, in light of the UCPD’s troubling history of mistreatment and intimidation of African American students, that especially excessive and authoritarian measures were taken against the African-American student, Toussaint Losier, who was arrested. These actions do not represent the values we associate with the University of Chicago, and unless concrete steps are taken to rectify and make amends for these actions, it will be hard for us to continue to support of our alma mater. As alumni, we feel this incident is shameful and reflects poorly on the University of Chicago. We will not be able, in good conscience, to give money to such an institution.38 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Hannah Chazin

McConnell and Ryan: Pull your Trump Endorsements NOW.Senator Mitch McConnell and Speaker Paul Ryan, While a number of moments during this campaign have disturbed many Americans, Donald Trump's response to Khizr Khan has truly crossed the line. Khizr's son, Humayun Khan, is a hero who sacrificed his life for this country. After his father criticized Donald Trump for smearing Muslims during the DNC, Donald Trump did not offer his condolences. He did not thank the Khans for their sacrifice and their commitment to this country. Instead, Donald Trump responded by again disparaging and stereotyping women and Muslim Americans. He responded with no concern for our First Amendment right to Freedom of Religion. This contradicts our most fundamental values as Americans. Above all, America is a refuge that calls for "your tired, your hungry, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free." We fought, bled and died on battlefields to free ourselves from litmus tests. Now, a presidential candidate threatens those core values we hold so dear. It's time to renounce your Donald Trump endorsements. The world is watching, and we will not forget. If you are truly men of principle, men of integrity, show America and the World. If you are truly patriots and truly conservatives, prove it. Put country over party. Remind us what it means to be a true statesman. Show the world what we mean by the home of the brave. Either you support Donald Trump, or you support the Constitution of the United States. Renounce your endorsements of Donald Trump.2,682 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Kipp Mueller

Tell Nick Melvoin: Give Back Billionaire and Trump Backer MoneyYour campaign’s deceitful mailers, funded with money from billionaire special interest groups, are disgraceful. The money that’s coming in from these special interests needs to be rejected. We’re calling on you to reject any money from Trump backers, from people tied to DeVos or to other right-wing groups. You need to return the direct contributions and publicly denounce their independent spending. The people of Los Angeles deserve it.547 of 600 SignaturesCreated by Irene Perez
