  • Social Security Fairness
Presently, individual workers pay 6.2% (4.2% in 2011) of their wages for the FICA (Federal Insurance Contributions Act) tax, which funds Social Security. Workers are required to pay these taxes on only the first $106,800 of their income. The limitation might seem like a good thing, but it's not. What it means is that more than 85% of wage earners pay FICA on ALL of their income, and that the top 15% of wage earners (those earning more than $106,800) pay FICA on only a portion of their wages. So somebody who earns $100,000 pays FICA on 100% of their wages, while somebody who earns $10 million pays FICA on only 1% of their wages. Where's the fairness in that? Urge Congress and the President to "uncap" Social Security tax limits, and require everybody to pay the same percentage into the system.

  • Pat McCrory; remove the Confederate Flag from NC License Plates
North Carolinians can still order a "Sons of Confederate Veterans" license plate which displays the Confederate Flag (Flag of the N. Va army) which is now considered a symbol of hate and racism. NC Governor needs to follow VA's lead and order the removal of this plate from the vanity plate program and not allow these plates to be renewed.

  • Take Back Control. Stop Big Tech.
We need Congress to pass legislation that will give internet users more choices for the products and services we use. Dominant tech companies abuse their gatekeeper status to undermine human rights, distort democracy, abuse our personal data, and stifle competition. As a constituent concerned about these issues, I’m writing to ask you to support The Open App Markets Act, The American Innovation and Choice Online Act, and other antitrust reform legislation that will create fair rules for the road and protect our basic rights.

  • End Helicopter Harassment in South Minneapolis
How much value do you put on your quality of life. Would nonstop helicopters circling over your home bother you? After the trauma our neighborhood has endured, each time a helicopter circles over our homes we are reliving the tragic events surrounding the murder of George Floyd. With the technology of drones and reporters on scene, there is no legitimate reason to continue harassing, and further traumatizing the people of South Minneapolis with helicopters.

  • ADD YOUR NAME: Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey must go!
Dear Mayor Jacob Frey, The February 2, 2022 murder of Amir Locke by Minneapolis Police was just another tragic example of how MPD continues to terrorize and kill Black Minneapolitans and their communities. You misled your constituents about “banning” no-knock warrants, but more importantly, you misled them about holding MPD accountable for their brutality that disproportionately targets Black people. Time and time again, you have demonstrated that you are not capable of keeping your constituents safe. Time and time again, you have failed to confront the police force that keeps killing Black people in your city — in fact, you continue to lie and campaign on MPD’s behalf. Your complicity has had deadly consequences. It is time for you to step down from your role as mayor of Minneapolis. Standing with tens of thousands of Minneapolis residents who are tired of your administration’s lies and inactions, we are calling on you to resign. We will keep fighting until what happened to George Floyd, Amir Locke, and countless others on your watch never happens again in Minneapolis.

  • Support Guatemalan president's call for drug legalization
President Molina, we applaud and support your proposal for drug legalization in Central America and beyond. Vice-President Roxana Baldetti, we support your efforts to promote this proposal to the Central-American leaders. We fully support Guatemalan request to open a debate on drug legalization at the Sixth Summit of the Americas on April 14-15, 2012. President Obama, we urge you to not stall the courageous process initiated by Guatemala, and to allow a truthful debate to take place. We urge you to show the courage and vision to add your positive contribution to the debate. President Calderon and President Santos, we urge you to throw the full support of Mexico and Colombia behind the Guatemalan proposal. Presidents Martinelli of Panama, Laura Chinchilla of Costa Rica, Funes of El Salvador, Lobo of Honduras, and Ortega of Nicaragua, we urge to add the support of your countries to the Proposal advanced by the Guatemalan Government. Despite the enormous resources wasted on it, the War on Drugs has failed, bringing destruction and chaos all over the world, affecting particularly the Central American region, thanks to its position on the major transit route to the US. Prohibition is the worst possible form of control as it leaves control in the hands of powerful criminal organizations. The time has come to seek more realistic and pragmatic approaches, asking the simple but fundamental question: “Are organized societies capable and willing to manage and control psychoactive substances, instead of leaving it to organized crime?” Global re-legalization under a multi-tiers “legalize, tax, control, prevent, treat and educate” regime with practical and efficient mechanisms to manage and minimize societal costs is the only realistic long-term solution to the issue of illegal drugs. Far from giving up and far from an endorsement, controlled legalization would be finally growing up; being realistic instead of being in denial; being in control instead of leaving control to the underworld. It would abolish the current regime of socialization of costs and privatization of profits to criminal enterprises, depriving them of their main source of income and making our world a safer place.
