    Major League Baseball decided to move the 2021 All-Star game out of Atlanta in response to the Georgia legislature's passage of restrictive voting policies. In honor of the passing of baseball great Hank Aaron, the new site should be Milwaukee. Aaron played in both Milwaukee and Atlanta.

  • Extension of Unemployment Benefits for Long Term Unemployed
    Action is needed today (12/11/13) within hours to protect people who have been unemployed for more than 6 months. As of Jan 1, 2014, unemployment benefits for people who have been unemployed more than 6 months will end. The average time for finding new work is still 33 weeks, 7 more weeks than basic unemployment benefits. It is even worse for people who are over age 55; this group finds new employment in an average of 49 weeks! (See AARP bulletin http://www.aarp.org/work/job-hunting/info-11-2013/the-employment-situation-october-2013-AARP-ppi-econ-sec.html) Too young for Social Security and without young children to help them qualify for public welfare programs, unemployed older Americans are being cast adrift by omitting an extension of long-term unemployment benefits from the December 2013 Congressional Budget Compromise. Action is needed in the next few hours to help people who have worked hard for decades to have heat and food for the additional weeks it takes to find new employment.

  • Recognize the Resolutions of the People's General Assembly as Democratic Law
    Recognize the People’s General Assembly in Liberty Plaza, New York, New York as a legitimate voice of the American people. Acknowledge that the legitimacy of any organization which represents the American People is derived solely from the consent of the governed, in accordance with the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution. Thus, if the People’s General Assembly is supported by a larger percentage of the American People than the U.S. congress, then the Assembly, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, may seek to alter or abolish the current form of Government or the current Economic order, and may institute a new system of Governing, Economics, or Finance, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect the Safety and Happiness of the American people, so long as consent from the people is maintained. If the assembly represents a majority of the American people, then their resolutions will be far more legitimate than those of Congress with its current approval rating. Therefore, it is the will of the people that such resolutions be enacted by the U.S. Executive Branch with full force of Law immediately upon passage by the People’s General Assembly and of a National Referendum by the American People.

  • Medical Community against police violence Open letter
    OPEN LETTER TO OUR STATE REPRESENTATIVES We are medical professionals in the Pioneer Valley and wish to promote harm reduction to our community. That is part of our job. Police violence against the people in the Springfield community is systemic, long stating and targets vulnerable populations such as the poor, homeless, people with mental illness and people with addiction disorders. This is evidenced by this recent Boston Globe report https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/07/25/metro/one-worst-police-departments-country/ and the US Department of Justice report https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-announces-findings-investigation-narcotics-bureau-springfield. As medical professionals we are required to report suspected abuse in the elderly, children, and disabled populations. We propose to expand these protections to injuries suspected to be the result of police violence. These injuries should be reported to an independent agency that is being proposed as new legislation in the Massachusetts legislature. We ask our legislators to propose additional new legislation that would mandate reporting by medical professionals of all injuries suspected of being caused by the police. The reports would go to the new proposed agency. We ask our legislature to put forward such legislation.

    The story of Angelo Cabrera is exactly what is wrong with our broken immigration system and a perfect example of why we need reform. Mr. Cabrera is a shining example of the American dream and the important role immigrants play in making this country a better place. Yet, the Customs and Border Protection Admissibility Review Office denied his petition to return to the United States. Now, under President Obama’s immigration initiatives we hope that he would receive entry into the US. We the undersigned ask that you, Senator, request USCIS to reconsider the case of Angelo Cabrera.

    The University at Albany must express its devotion to protecting youth voting rights by allowing students to vote, free of the time constraints that come with attending classes. By eliminating this barrier to voting that students face, the University at Albany has the opportunity to increase student voter turnout and therefore amplify its students’ voices. Generation Vote at the University at Albany is calling upon the University’s administration to designate Election Day as a university holiday.

    Enough is enough already. Governor Rick Scott has gone too far with the voter purge. We have rights and it is clear that at every hand he is going to try to take them away regardless to the cost of Floridians. Therefore it's time Governor Scott gets gone. Let’s band together and send Governor Rick Scott a message that the good citizens of Florida will not stand by and tolerate these actions. Lets take a play from the Republicans book and call for his impeachment.
