The community input process must include: A full list of names of candidates provided to community members at the point in the process in which candidates are interviewed by stakeholder groups beyond the search committee. A set of community forums with each candidate at the phase of the hiring process when candidates meet with stakeholder groups. These forums must open to the community and must be organized in ways for county residents to hear each candidate speak directly to residents, and in which community members are able to ask questions of the candidates. A mechanism for county residents to submit substantive feedback on each candidate under consideration and assurance for the way that community feedback will be considered in decisions about the advancement of candidates to subsequent rounds of consideration in the hiring process, and about the selection of a candidate for the position of Chief of Police. Create a review panel to make the final decision on hiring that includes: 2 community advocates around criminal justice reform, 2 returning citizens from the non-profit sector. Create a probation period of 1 to 2 years that allows for community feedback on the performance of the new chief of police.
