The holiday season and the spirit of generosity are upon us! MCEA urges you to extend the holiday spirit into policy and budgets that support our students and educators.

For the last two years, California’s healthcare workers have made enormous sacrifices to keep patients safe and hospitals operating. As the pandemic rages on and surge conditions worsen, we know that sacrifice will continue. That is why we need—and expect—our elected leaders and public health officials to make sound decisions when it comes to protecting healthcare workers and our patients. In their guidance issued on January 8th, the California Department of Public Health did the exact opposite. The guidance allows healthcare workers who have been exposed to COVID-19 to return to work—even if they’ve had a positive test. This move is unscientific, and dangerous for California healthcare workers and hospital patients. It will put the most vulnerable patients in harm’s way. And it will turn healthcare workers—the people who ought to help patients heal—into vectors for the virus. CDPH’s hospital staffing guidance must be reversed before it yields disastrous results. We urge you to call on CDPH to reverse this plan. As our Governor, it is incumbent on you to provide leadership and stop putting patient safety at risk.

The public airwaves that the radio and television signals pass through belong to all the people, not just the political party with the most money. Decades ago, there used to be a provision that required all radio and TV stations to broadcast both sides of every story and to clearly label editorial content as editorial, it was called the Fairness Doctrine. This doctrine was upheld as constitutional by the United States Supreme Court. The Fairness Doctrine was nuked during the Reagan Administration and that allowed political parties and PACs to propagandize the US public with editorial content disguised as news. Should the public airwaves, which belong to all the citizens of the USA be held hostage by either political party? Can the propaganda lies be reported as news coverage and repeated so often that even intelligent people start believing it? Should the public airwaves be held hostage by either political party? I think not. Please return the PUBLIC airwaves back to the PUBLIC and reinstate the Fairness Doctrine.

Please introduce legislation to eliminate pension participation for all elected officials. Elected officials should not be career motivated and could have higher personal limits for their IRAs during years of government SERVICE.

Put "YES" or "NO" in all election choices.

Please lift travel ban on family based immigrant visas for citizens of countries impacted by the travel ban. They have been waiting for many years to reunite with their families.
