It's time to REQUIRE that all presidential and vice presidential nominees release five years of their tax returns in order to be on the Rhode Island general election ballot beginning in 2020, or lose their place on the ballot. In 2020 and beyond, candidates of either party could well have significant financial dealings here and abroad that could affect the impartiality of their elected responsibilities. Bills S-2612 and H-7877 must be passed to ensure future financial transparency in Presidential elections in RI. Similar bills failed to be reported to the floor for votes in 2017. We urge that this important legislation be swiftly brought to the floors of House and Senate chambers for a vote and passed in this 2018 legislative session.
