  • Join DePaul in Fight to Keep Chicago's Schools Open
We are DePaul University Students, Faculty, and Alumni who feel it is unjust for the City of Chicago to use $100 million to build a new stadium for DePaul in the wake of the largest number of school closings in history. This sentiment is reflected in the last paragraph of the Mission Statement of DePaul's School of Education, "With a commitment to the poor and disenfranchised in society, we believe in education as a force for social justice. We also strive to be a community of learners who engage in dialogue and inquiry leading to the improvement of educational practices in schools, communities, and higher education."

  • President Obama: End Drone Strikes in Yemen!
Drone strikes don't require troops on the ground. They happen off-screen, and out of Americans' minds. But for the people of Yemen, the constant terror of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, of playing or working near a suspect of some unspecified crime, is what's breeding terrorists in an area crippled by fear. Enough of children's scarred skeletons, of cars reduced to melted metal, of the massacre of a foreign people without reason or mercy. Join us in demanding President Obama stop murder by drone, and stop breeding a new culture of hate, terror and trauma!

  • Support the "Green Dozen" Illinois bills to limit the damage caused by fracking
Dear Governor Quinn, Representative Madigan and Senator Sandoval: Fracking should be carefully regulated or banned in Illinois. We support the Green Dozen, bills to protect the citizens of Illinois against some of the most dangerous aspects of fracking like destabilization of the New Madrid fault, potential release of radioactive or hazardous debris into flood plains and aquifers which provide drinking water, and trespassing and even fracking on citizen's legally-owned personal property! We ask that you also support these bills to protect us against fracking.

  • Electronic Gun Security
Ample technology exists to modify existing (personal) weapons and to manufacture new ones with electronic safety locks. One would need their fingerprint and/or a pin to use it. This should be the most urgent law to be enacted in combination with restricted access and restricted types (of weapons and amunition). Even by itself, it is a powerful starting point. The manufacturer would have to bear a significant part of the cost and a fee assessed on licenses or a tax on fire arm buyers/owners to pay for the rest. Compliance would be volunteer at first and mandatory later. Please introduce such bill and act on it.

  • Honor your office responsibility for the 100%
I am small business owner struggling to recovery in this sluggish economy. Since most of my business come from subcontracting opportunities, the childish behavior of the Congress that is putting partisan issue over the needs of the American Taxpayers is devastating for my business. Also, there is a lot of talk on the hill about the need to invest in Science and Technology, there needs to be focus legislation in this areas to help the home inventors with great ideas. Too often, the grants are going to the same cast of characters and new inventor are not getting a chance to showcase their talents.

  • Clean Air for Richmond
Several weeks ago the Richmond Refinery of Chevron/Standard Oil was rocked by an explosion and fire. Neighboring residents were forced to either leave the area or isolate themselves in their homes in order to avoid toxic smoke and fumes. Despite the record profits of the oil industry, Chevron has decided to repair the plant minimally without making upgrades which would improve air quality in the neighborhood as well as safety. If enough signers join, perhaps a new accident or costly toxic pollution litigation can be avoided and a cooperative solution reached.

  • Continue to support President Obama's negotiations with Iran
Current news as of today, Dec 25, 2013, is that you are opposed to proposed legislation introduced by Senators Menendez and Kirk which would impose sanctions on Iran even while negotiations are underway with Iran regarding Iran's nuclear program. We the undersigned rejoice in your opposition to this legislation which would undermine the prospects of a negotiated agreement with Iran. We encourage you to stand firm against the so called "Nuclear Weapons Free Iran Act". Please continue to back President Obama's diplomatic approach to Iran.

  • Extend Unemployment Benefits
At the end of November 2013, the unemployment rate in California was the sixth highest in the country at 8.5%. It takes longer than six months to find a new job in this economy. It takes nine months on average, and more like 13 months if you're over 50. Helping people financially while they are unemployed prevents foreclosures. It helps people stay above water while they are job hunting. Please do the right thing for the people of California and the rest of the country and sponsor a bill authorizing extension of unemployment benefits as soon as possible.

  • Replace Columbus Day and Establish the 2nd Monday of October as Indigenous Peoples Day
We the undersigned ask our local Town and County government in Taos, New Mexico, as well as State and Federal governments, to establish the 2nd Monday of October as Indigenous Peoples Day, in place of celebrating the brutally violent acts of Columbus and his expedition. We realize that as regards the Town of Taos, Columbus is not officially celebrated, but still feel that it needs the extra step of renaming, reframing and reclaiming the day as something we can inclusively celebrate together as a community, rather than the collective cringe that the day represents now.

  • Tell PA Governor Wolf: Stop Fracking Now!
Governor Wolf, I call on you to enact a moratorium on fracking in Pennsylvania. I have visited Pennsylvania communities that have been devastated by fracking. I know people who are sick, and I know people who can no longer drink their water or breathe clean air in their own homes. Research shows that fracking is harming health and air and water quality, which is why New York banned it.  You have an opportunity to change course by stopping fracking in the state and helping the harmed residents now.
