  • End Greene County’s Contract with ICE: Stop the Detention of Immigrants in Our Local Jail
    We the people call on the Missouri Greene County Commissioners and Sheriff’s Office to: 1. Immediately terminate any existing agreements with ICE for the housing or detention of immigrant  detainees in Greene County Jails; 2. Cease all future collaboration with ICE that involves the use of county jail space or law enforcement personnel; and  3. Commit to policies that protect, rather than endanger, the rights and dignity of all residents regardless of immigration status.   • Review Keith Blueitt’s Case After 31 Years
    To Whom It May Concern, My name is Angel Lindsey, and I am the great niece of Bryon Keith Blueitt. I don’t usually speak publicly, but I am writing to humbly ask for your attention—and your help. Keith has spent over 30 years in prison for a tragic incident that occurred when he was just 30 years old. While the legal outcome may have aligned with the laws of the time, it failed to account for the deeper truth of the situation: this was an act rooted in fear and self-defense, not malice. Keith was not a career criminal, nor a violent man by nature. He was a young Black man placed in a life-altering situation with no real way out. Now, at 61 years old, Keith is no longer the same man. He is a devout Muslim who has spent decades reflecting, growing, and doing the inner work that so many never attempt. He is deeply remorseful for the pain that was caused. He has used his time behind bars not to give up, but to give back—to teach, to mentor, and to live with purpose and faith. I am asking for a second chance on his behalf. Whether through clemency, parole, or sentence review, I am pleading for someone with the power to revisit this case and consider the full person that Keith is today—not just the person he was decades ago. He poses no threat to society. If anything, he is someone who could help it heal. I know there are many names and many cases, but I ask you not to let his be overlooked. Even sharing this story is difficult for me, but I do it because I believe in mercy, in growth, and in redemption. Keith deserves the opportunity to live out the rest of his life with dignity, peace, and freedom. Thank you for listening—and for caring enough to consider taking action.     Measles is not a “harmless” illness, as some skeptics like to claim. It’s a highly contagious illness that can cause complications like pneumonia, brain damage, and even death. However, it’s entirely preventable with a safe, effective, decades-old vaccine. But as vaccination rates are dropping in communities across the U.S., fueled by misinformation and chronic underinvestment in public health, the problem will only get worse. Health departments across the country rely on funding from both the VFC and Section 317 to track outbreaks, educate the public, or ensure that every child can get vaccinated But if Congress continues to underfund these critical federal programs, then health departments across the country will continue to be stretched thin, and will be forced to make hard choices that will impact how they can serve our communities.

    Office of Management and Budget – Office of Statistical Policy and Standards U.S. Census Bureau – Director Robert Santos We, the undersigned, demand the recognition of “Reclassified Original American” as a distinct ethnic and national origin classification in the U.S. Census and federal data standards. The current category “Black or African American” erases the identity and legal history of millions who do not descend from African immigrants, but from people whose original tribal, national, and noble identities were stripped by colonial law, Catholic decrees, slavery, and Jim Crow-era classification systems. “The terms “Black” and “African American” are not only inaccurate—they are politically dangerous and should be erased from the U.S. Census. These categories do nothing to distinguish between: • Reclassified Indigenous Americans, Black Europeans, and Aboriginal lineages   — versus — • Recent African and Caribbean immigrants who voluntarily chose U.S. citizenship Lumping these distinct groups into one checkbox erases history, distorts data, and undermines rightful claims to land, lineage, and reparations. By collapsing two entirely different people into one label, the U.S. Census: • Erases the unique history of American-born descendants of reclassified nations and POW’s • Falsely inflates political numbers with immigrant populations who do not share our struggle • Undermines reparations, restoration, and land claims for those who were colonized here — not brought here The following:         •  Descendants of enslaved American Indians (POWs)         •Reclassified American Indians removed from tribal rolls         •Indigenous Europeans, Pacific Islanders, and Asians reclassified as “Black”        •Free People of Color who were stripped of their sovereign identity and status Many of us were originally classified as Indian, European, or Free National, but were forcibly renamed “Negro” or “Colored” after the Catholic Church outlawed Indian slavery. To continue exploiting us, colonists simply changed our label — creating a paper genocide that lasted through the 20th century. Under Jim Crow, laws like the Racial Integrity Act of 1924 and policies from officials like Walter Plecker and Naomi Drake legally destroyed our tribal and national records, denying us land, treaties, and access to reparations. This was not assimilation — this was erasure. We are not African immigrants. We are not a generic race.

  • NJ State Legislature must convene regularly
    We are NJ voters who are concerned that the state legislature is currently not planning to reconvene until November despite the urgent issues facing our state. We are grateful for the leadership that you and your colleagues have shown in safeguarding New Jersey residents from some of the most harmful policies being advanced in DC. Like you, we are deeply committed to protecting the people of our state from the rising extremism at the federal level that is putting our democracy at risk.  However, we were extremely concerned to learn that the State legislature is not currently scheduled to reconvene until after the November election, other than for matters related to the budget. We note that last calendar year (2024), the State legislature met starting in mid-September and then frequently throughout October. Delaying meeting until sometime in November is, therefore, particularly alarming due to the rapidly evolving crisis at the national level that threatens our democracy and directly harms the residents of our state. We fully expect that you know what we are concerned about. Attacks on immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community and those who rely on life-saving programs such as SNAP and Medicaid have intensified and continue to do so every day. Our environment and our very voting rights are being threatened. At this moment, state leaders need to meet and take what actions they can to block immediate threats and prepare to resist the future ones that are coming.   We respectfully but firmly urge you to work with members of the Legislature to ensure that it meets on a regular basis beginning in September to address the new challenges now facing New Jerseyans.
