Governor Bill Haslam et al, as the caregiver and legal guardian of my 5 year old granddaughter, I have listened to and read your thoughts regarding wanting armed personel inside our public schools. Having recently undergone the threat of a bomb purportedly placed inside Dyerburg Primary School, I believe you're wrong in what you're suggesting. I've spoken with many of the teachers at DPS as well as other parents and all agree with me that if your wishes for armed personel are carried out, our children will be placed at greater risk. I urge you to seek better and more effective Gun Control laws rather than seeking armed personel within our public schools.

Please support the proposal forwarded to you by the Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Public Works Committee to improve facilities for pedestrians, bicycles, wheelchairs, and transit riders. Specifically, there are many obstacles that all of these groups face, which has the overall effect of making alternative transportation more difficult and therefore less utilized. Increasing the share of these transportation modes will result in less vehicle traffic congestion and road maintenance expenses while at the same time improving the livability of Gainesville.

STOP THE CUTS AND HELP OUR AMERICANS

You may have heard that yesterday President Obama made an offer to Republican John Boehner to cut Social Security benefits and leave in place some of the Bush tax cuts for the top 2%. The cuts in Social Security are opposed by an overwhelming majority of SignOn.org members and would amount to "a cut of more than 5 percent and more as the years go by." For many retirees this would mean critical cuts to benefits that cover medicine, food, and other daily necessities.1,2

Since the Republican majority has taken over Lansing they have abolished the Unit Retail Pricing law. It was suppose to curb inflation. It hasn't. Now that it has been repealed we need a more thoughtful customer and retailer friendly replacement. Where possible things (especially " sale" items) should be clearly marked on the product. This bill should also standardize common product sizes. Five pounds of sugar now looks the same but is only four pounds. What was once a one pound can of coffee is now 10.7 ounces. What appears to be one half gallon of ice cream is now 1.75 quarts. Things should be standardized so we retail shoppers can tell if we are getting a good deal or just getting the shaft.

Our goal is to implement a mandatory privacy setting for children under the age of 13 on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
