It's time that self-insured vehicles owned by the federal, state, or city entities have to follow the same guidelines when involved in auto accidents as regular insurance companies. When a government employee causes an accident the other driver should not have to pay their own deductibles and car rentals and wait months to be reimbursed by the government.
Why is this important?
We were recently involved in an accident with a federal government employee visiting our state. He was found at fault but we have the financial hardship of paying for everything and waiting for the government to reimburse us which will take months. The government vehicles should be subject to the same procedures that occur between two insured motorist.
