Victory! The creator of this petition declared the campaign a success. You can still sign the petition to show support.
Given the overwhelming passage of the Marriage Equality bill in the Rhode Island House of Representatives, which reflected the overwhelming majority of Rhode Islanders in favor of equal rights for all of us, we ask that you let S0038 be heard in committee and allowed out onto the floor for a vote immediately .
Why is this important?
We want to remind you of your oath to uphold your oath of office, which includes upholding the separation of religious beliefs from civil laws. This bill is not a test of your religious fidelity, or an assault on you religious beliefs, or on “the sanctity of marriage,” (private sentiments which should have no place ever in your decisions on the floor of the legislature), but as so cogently explained by Rep. Chris Blazejewski, this is a matter of civil rights, bringing civil justice to all families. Thank you.
