We call on the Senate to fulfill its Constitutional duty to advise and consent on President Obama’s nomination to the Supreme Court. There is more than adequate time to check the nominee’s background, debate, and vote. Leaving an opening on the court for almost a year would lead to uncertainty and cause irreparable harm to our democracy and our citizens.
Why is this important?
There are too many important issues before the Supreme Court to tolerate a vacancy of almost a year. President Obama was lawfully elected by the people of the United States and has the constitutional power to nominate a replacement for Justice Scalia and the Senate has the responsibility of advising and giving its consent to such a nominee.
