To: Sen. Mike Lee (UT-1)

Senator Hatch, don't tarnish your legacy

As the elder statesman of the Senate, you have stood as an example as a patriot and servant of the Republic. Please end your service the same way. Please consider not confirming any Supreme Court nominee until after the Mueller probe is resolved. The president should not have any role in selecting a judge the will certainly have to rule on some aspect of the question of conspiracy, corruption or obstruction of justice in the Trump campaign. Until these issues are resolved, the President should effectively recuse himself by not choosing a judge, as he has a clear conflict of interest. If he fails to do so, it falls to the Senate to protect the Republic. Please rise to the need one more time.

Why is this important?

The retirement of Justice Stevens from the Supreme Court gives President Trump to shape the Court for a generation. It also gives him the opportunity to insure that will rule favorably when any of the many questions surrounding the Mueller probe reach the Court, as the almost certainly will. Patriotic Senators should delay confirming any nominee until these issues are resolved.
