Senator Manchin Please Pull the Pentagon Pork

Dear Senator Manchin,

Social Programs are essential to the health and economic well-being of West Virginians. Please stand up for our social safety net -- we cannot afford to lose a penny of funding for education, healthcare, childcare and seniors in this state. Please oppose these cuts, and, instead, fix the federal budget by reigning in wasteful and unnecessary Pentagon spending, closing corporate tax loopholes and making the wealthiest 2% pay their fair share.

Why is this important?

Pentagon spending is expected to top $653 billion this fiscal year. Many experts believe that cutting the Pentagon’s budget by $50 billion per year over the next 10 years will actually enhance our national security by ending wasteful spending and freeing up the funds to invest in our economy and our communities. According to a Gallup Poll from November of 2012, over 58% of Americans would like to see reductions in military spending.
