Senators -- vote YES for election modernization in Massachusetts

Victory! The creator of this petition declared the campaign a success. You can still sign the petition to show support.

Dear Senator,

I'm writing today asking for your support in the passage of a strong election modernization bill in the Senate (S1975).

I urge you to support the bill which includes:
- Online voter registration, as passed in the House;
- Early voting, which has been strengthened from the version passed in the House to include all biennial state elections and weekend early voting hours;
- Pre-registration for 16 and 17 year-olds to encourage young people to vote as soon as they turn 18;
- Improved inactive voting procedures.

I urge you to support amendments that provide for:
- Post-election audits to make sure our voting machines are accurate;
- Election Day registration, so voters can register or update their registration on Election Day, so that no eligible voter is turned away from the polls.

And I urge you to oppose amendments for restrictive photo-ID requirements to vote, which would disenfranchise some voters.

At a time when voting rights are being challenged all over the nation, Massachusetts has a chance to be a leader in the voting rights movement.

A truly comprehensive election modernization bill can make that happen.

I hope I can I count on your support.

Thank you!

Why is this important?

Massachusetts has not substantially updated its election laws in decades. The time is now.
