Skowhegan P.D.: Speak Up
Skowhegan P.D., we, the citizens of Skowhegan and surrounding towns, are calling on you to make an official statement about the death of George Floyd and other minorities who have been victimized by the police in this country. We feel that it is important for you to show that you stand with us, and are doing your duty as public servants. So far, the silence from your department has been deafening. The citizens of the Skowhegan area would like to see your officers mimic the actions of other police departments across the nation who have joined us in taking a knee and condemning racial violence. We would also like transparency on what you are doing locally to insure that racial profiling and discrimination is not happening in our town. We are asking for you to require that all officers are well trained to address their racial biases, and that this training be redone frequently. “The time is always right to do what is right” Martin Luther King Jr.
Why is this important?
It is important for all police departments across the state and the country to show where they stand and to initiate change. We the people are not going to allow injustice to take place any longer.
