Simplify the Wind Ordinance for small privately owned windmills for electric production to focus only on design integrity and safety. Design integrity is assured by approval of NYSERDA, or by an Internationally Recognized Testing Laboratory. Safety is met with setback from the public by the same distance as the "reach" of the system. Please revise the Wind Ordinance to encourage private ownership of small windmills for electrical production for use in any zone in town that enables adequate setbacks, on parcels of 2 acres or more, and which meet NYSERDA or other internationally recognized testing and certification standards.
Why is this important?
Small wind systems for private owners have been proven effective to reduce dependence upon commercial electricity. Small wind systems which are approved by NYSERDA should be allowed anywhere in town where they can be placed their height away from the public. The Zoning Ordinance should be minimal and simple, to encourage the use of small wind systems, to increase individual prosperity, independence and self-sufficiency.
