Southwest Michigan Citizens Against The "Religious Freedom Restoration Act"
Stop the passage of this bill which would allow anybody to discriminate against others based on their understanding of scripture.
Why is this important?
Last week, the Michigan House of Representatives passed the "Religious Freedom Restoration Act" along party lines. It should be titled the "License To Discriminate Act". This act's sole purpose is to allow a person to refuse to serve any person whom they choose if they have a moral objection to that person's lifestyle.
The LGBT community is most likely the target of this bill, but it has far reaching implications that even its proponents don't yet realize. By citing religious beliefs, people would be able to legally discriminate against anybody they wanted for any purpose. Christians against Jews, Jews against Muslims, Muslims against Hindus, and so on, and so on.
Is this really the type of society we wish to live in? I think not.
Liberty and justice for all, regardless of whether or not you share someone else's religious beliefs.
