Stand up for the separation of church and state
Stand up for the separation of church and state by removing all funds from the operating budget bill that provide textbooks and computers to non-public schools (most of which are religious).
Why is this important?
We should all care about maintaining a separation of church and state, which benefits religious groups by keeping government out of their internal affairs and benefits each of us personally by preventing us from being forced to subsidize religious beliefs or institutions with which we disagree. Also, if our tax money does not go to religious schools (which are constitutionally protected in their right to discrimination and, for example, to teach children that gays and lesbians are undeserving of equal rights), we will have more money for our public schools (which are controlled by us all and cannot legally discriminate).
