Start Lee County, FL high schools at 8:30 AM

Research has shown that early high school start times have a strong connection with sleep deprivation, student performance, truancy, behavior and more in teenagers subjected to them. There are studies that are decades old* exposing the negative impact of early start times, as well as universally positive results from schools that have made the switch to a more appropriate time, and yet we still allow this to go on unchanged. In fact, school boards acknowledge the negative effect of having needlessly early start times, but are under the misconception that it will be too expensive to change them to a more reasonable time, even though in multiple school districts this has proved to be false. Help us in our cause to push back the school start time of Lee County high schools to 8:30AM for the benefit of all students by sharing and signing this petition. This has gone unchanged for far too long. Thank you for your consideration.

Why is this important?

We and the people we deeply care about have suffered (and continue to suffer) the negative effects of sleep deprivation caused largely by the early high school start times, resulting in persisting deep stress and decreased academic performance.
