Coal companies, including Peabody Energy, the world's largest coal company, have major plans for the western states. They want to build a massive export terminal at Cherry Point—sacred lands to the Lummi Nation in northwestern Washington—so they can export coal from Wyoming and Montana.
The proposed export terminal would export at least 48 million tons of coal per year, making it the largest coal export facility in North America. From the Powder River Basin in Montana and Wyoming to the Washington state coast, coal trains would endanger the environment and public health of northwestern communities.
We strongly encourage the Washington State Governor and state legislature to oppose coal export trains and the construction of the Gateway Pacific terminal and protect WA States rivers, streams, wildlife, communities and Native American sacred sites.
Why is this important?
We strongly encourage the Washington State Governor and State legislature to say NO to coal export trains and terminals in our state!
The proposed coal exports from the Powder River Basin threaten Washington States rivers, streams, wildlife, communities and Native American sacred sites.
