Stop Congressional and Presidential Pay
Since the President and Republicans in Congress appear to feel that a government shutdown is a good thing, we should let them take advantage of it themselves.
Democrats in Congress should pass a law that whenever any part of the government is shut down and government workers do not get paid, they should not get paid either. That means legislators, their staff, the President, his/her staff, and department heads. It could exclude workers making less than $40,000 a year to protect those who may be living paycheck to paycheck.
The bill wouldn't pass in this Congress, but it could highlight the hypocrisy of our elected officials when it comes to stopping pay for others. Perhaps, if they had something to lose they would think twice before shutting down the government again.

Why is this important?
It is shameful that our government officials are happily taking their own paychecks (and even raises) while 800,000 government employees are working without pay or not working at all.
