Stop Cuts To Mental Healthcare; Reopen Southeast Louisiana Hospital

The recent cuts to the mental health safety net have severely limited access to mental health services for the poorest citizens of our state. We demand the reopening of a public hospital on the site of the former Southeast Louisiana Hospital which should include access to acute and intermediate level of services for the mentally ill. Additionally, we demand that Governor Jindal expand Medicaid access in accordance with the Obama health care reform law.

Why is this important?

Gov. Jindal has made devastating cuts to our state mental health care safety net. The closing of Southeast Louisiana Hospital has severely devastated the access to indigent health services for the mentally ill in the greater New Orleans area. The governor seems determined to continue these cuts statewide, so this will eventually affect the entire state.
